Folks
I have been trolling Pennocks to gather info on the F23 swap, including trying to combine the gearing from the 2009-2010 Cobalt FY1 trans into the 2000-2002 metric bell housing. I ordered brackets and mounts from WCF... and am holding my breath to see if /whenI actually get the parts!
There are lots of threads on the topic, bits and pieces, some facts, some guesses and lots of opinions. I have very limited technical skills and experience and will likely just collect what info I can and have someone do the work for me.
This brings me to my suggestion...
We all know it is a lot of time and effort to do an engine swap, trans swap, etc. Some members here do have the skills, expereience and knowledge to do this work, but may not have the inclination or time to properly document everything. So I am proposing that we offer some money to qualified (knowledgeable) members who produce a well documented build thread with pictures, technical data. I think it would be a nice "thank you" and help them offset the cost of their own swap. I would be happy to send some money to a total stranger who took the time to document something I am trying to achieve, and thus save me a ton of headaches and hassle.
Do you agree that this would be a good incentive for more knowledgeable members here to dig in and put more effort into documenting their work to help those of us less talented?
Perhaps Cliff can set up the occasional survey on what customization, swap or technical knowledge is most in demand?
Then these "technical documents" can be stored on PFF, complete with links to Youtube videos, etc, and a paypal address where those of us who use the info can make a donation to the author.
There is a lot of skill and knowledge here that could, and should be compensated if it means the knowledge can be passed on to others and will save them far more $$ than struggling to reinvent the wheel

Congrats for being up for the challenge. I'm going to assume you were just joking about holding your breath for WCF to send your parts. You'd be in deep trouble even if they arrived next day air. I did the 3800sc swap and researched all the current info and archives from long ago to get familiar with different ways to achieve the same result. I learned that there was no cook-book approach on how to do this. After a lot of reading and saving pictures I encountered experts in conflict on how things should be done such as what fuel pump to use, or should the redundant fuel pump relay circuit be retained and so on. Low mount alternator versus high-mount location, where to mount the coil pack, what path to run the exhaust conventional path or cut the trunk and run it out the back, yada yada.
I studied for a year before diving in to do the work. My prior knowledge from years ago was to pick out an oak tree with a solid bowel, borrow a block & tackle, dig out some common hand tools and have a GTO engine swap done in a few hours or less. Modern cars are different and the Fiero is even more different. There are also some electric powered Fiero's out there just in case you choose to venture in that direction. You mentioned buying parts and have someone install them. Hopefully it will be someone that is familiar with Fieros or has worked on them before. In either case it would be wise in my opinion to purchase a factory service manual for your Fiero and inform the mechanic that it's on the front seat in case he gets stuck.
If you're a quick study you could do all the work yourself. After all a few years ago a 12 year old child figured out and solved 3 Rubik's cubes in 5 minutes while juggling them in mid air.

Thanks
My next challenge is the F23 swap, so that is what I was interested in. Seems be lots of "bits and pieces" info, and I was hoping to find a concise write-up, pictures, details, and would be happy to pay for it. That is what I was getting at: I think it would be mutually beneficial to help fund the creation of.
My WCF brackets, cables, adaptor have been shipped. FY1 and Vin 4 transmissions have been ordered, so I am researching the gearing swap right now, as the VIN 4 gearing is terrible with a 3800SC motor. Had one...
Hopefully I can find a well documented swap on here to help, as I have limited knowledge and help available.
Fingers crossed!
