At what point should it be tossed? (Page 1/1) |

So like some around here I have amassed a collection of parts from taking apart the unfortunate Fiero or three. I have a bit of space but it is not limitless or multiple acers that i can squrrel something away and forget.
My question is at what point are some of these parts not worth keeping/saving? Some of them can be patched or repaired with fiberglass but at what point is it not worth it?
For example today i took off a roof... And i cant ever seem to get them off in one piece.

Now part of me says it can be fiberglassed. The other part says its trash won't ever fit right and will leak.
Then we have the parts that have cracked over the years or the rivet couldn't be removed.

Or the parts that got caught up in dum dum and cracked but could be glued and nobody will ever see it

I know this is a subjective question i just hope to get some opinions.

Fiero parts are still cheap, so if will take hours to repair (which will cost more than buying an undamaged part), then toss it.

A solid roof can be harder to locate than a sunroof one, so maybe that makes a difference in saving?

Good point. I guess if its a part that is still mostly available and the time to fix is less than the hassle and cost of a undamaged/less damaged one it should go.
I just hate taking them apart and like to save as much as i can.

This seems true for some reason. I have a solid roof in about 4 parts over in the body parts pile. (Those a pillars suck) I was thinking id keep it just incase because its not a part people would think to save. This sunroof roof is just too damaged... But i have one more sun roof car... Perhaps ill get lucky.
It has been one of those thoughts, if i need this will it be less damaged than mine (the one that was on my car that was damaged for some unforeseen reason) or some other poor soul who had someone jump up and down on the roof during a riot and fell through. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Another in I took a junk bumper which had the lover portion broke and added the lower portion of another junk bumper. And boom custom front end.

Actually you just reminded my why i should not toss this 87/88 front bumper. I actually have part of one I got from CC Rider. He explained a neat mod that i want to try. Basically you cut at the aero seam flip it over an match up with the bumper.

I would look at second hand and importing or just glass it up and bondo it. I just don't have luxury of finding parts with ease.
