Sadly, tho Chevy has the highest average quality at the moment among all auto manufacturers, it is obvious that there ia a certain amount of arrogance in the Vette team...How in heck can you miss something that A) Is required by law and B) Has been for decades, and C) Is on every car- not just Vettes...? Idiocy!
I remember something similar with a car that had a combination of mistakes in the Oiling system and bad rods..........

As demanded by consumers, governments, and the quest for profits, cars have exploded in complexity in recent years.
Cars have grown into monsters that are difficult for a person to grasp, so I am not surprised that something was missed out. I suppose that our way of thinking and project management have not followed the growth of automotive complexity.

Agreed as the systems and sub systems are very tricky today.
The major issue is they have the many electrical system in a car all trying to work on 12 volts. To do this it relays on a number of computer programs and the body control modals.
Even on a GMC Acadia they had to do a recall as the factory upgraded the back up lights to led only to find it messed up the balance of of the systems and started to mess up the dash. The fix was to go back to standard bulbs.
There is no arrogance here on the Vette Team. To be honest they are one of the best group of engineers in the world to build such good cars at such a low price,
I had a Pontiac with a battery that catastrophically failed. The car started to shut down systems as the voltage dropped. I lost the AC, radio, speedo and other electronics as to keep the engine going. It hot me home. Power management is Pretty crazy.
I wager this system will be easily fixed with an updated computer flash that will retain the power to the trunk longer.

Might note the early V6 fieros had an issue with the rubber shields cutting rear radiator hoses. I lost one with in weeks of my purchase. It cut the hose like a saw.
I still have a hose from a Falcon on it as at the time no one had a hose. I found one in the right shape and cut it to size.

Just confirmed this will be an over the air fix and the owners will not even have to go to the dealer.

And that there is both amazing ... and scary. It's like the operating system updates from Microsoft and Apple, which are certainly convenient as long as they work, which really is 99.999% of the time any more.
But it just seems weird to have that in a car. It's weird enough to go down to the shop and they have to update your car's software ... but to get it over the air, wow.
[NB: I have a vehicle that does OTA upgrades, but only for the infotainment system, and I have the option to enable/disable as I see fit. Key system updates are done via wire at the dealer.]

Wait until they start doing OTA adjustments to........US! (I am totally against this and think we need to pass some kind of law aga.........Zt-zt-zt...mmmmmmmm....Zt-zt-zt.....I....Think....It......Good thing.....I would like to be....adjusted.....OTA......)

It should be painless and less of a problem than some will think.
I fully expect cars to get updated with new features at no charge in many cases.
The best one I had was my HHR SS change 2 MAPS and a flash and I gained 60 HP under warranty.
Yes my new GMC models will upgrade the audio via the web.
The Corvette is the first of the new electric architecture. The others will join it soon.
Like my Apple Lap top I get a new operating system upgrade nearly every year and a host of new features that will keep it relevant for more years., fix bugs and add improvements.
Too bad we can zap people and fix what is broke.

My frustration is with the fact that you have to do all kinds of re-programming during an engine swap because the ENGINE computer is tied to the BCM, etc...You SNEEZE and the whole system shuts down! Why should the engine computer be concerned with whether the lights are on or the door is locked?
I wish someone could reprogram the 2.8 engine to get 60 more HP!
