My 87 Gt has some comfy aftermarket Recaro seats with large side bolsters. The problem is they interfere with the arm rests on the door panels and made it difficult to close the doors fully without slamming them. Especially when seated in the car. So after a few days of research I decided to make a change. I had all the materials on hand except for the 1/4" brass grommet kit / tools. It took me about 3 hours to make the straps and cut up some black polycarbonate I saved from an old pick-up tonneau cover box. The polycarbonate made some rectangular semi flat covers for the area normally covered by the armrests. Now the doors close easily and I have at least 3/4" clearance on each side between the door and the seat bolsters. Looks like my door carpet needs a re-dye on the edges. DP

It's definitely a utilitarian look, but hey... if the doors now more easily clear the seat bolsters, great!
I don't know if you were restricted due to the amount of black polycarbonate you happened to have on hand, but perhaps you could've cut them less rectangular, to better match the original lines. Doing so would've also helped to hide the cleaner looking (previously covered) lower door carpeting.

Yes Patrick I can probably do better. I would also like to get some black Allen head button screws for the attachment points. I have some of the polycarbonate material left, I just have to measure it and see of I can make some trapezoids that cover the tan lines better. I am cutting it with a jigsaw so the edges are not perfect. DP
