Good luck getting that to work right. Tesla is extremely protective of their software. You might be able to hack it, but I wouldn't want to be the first to try.

It probably makes more sense to rip out the Tesla brains and build a standalone ECU to control the hardware.[This message has been edited by pmbrunelle (edited 07-05-2020).]

Yes and that is way beyond the capabilites of most of us. How many caddy motors were running in limp mode and the fuel injection was ripped out and people put on carburetors? Electronics are not for the faint of heart.

That's the basis of my suggestion; remove the hard-to-hack black magic and replace it with something simple and easy to understand.

I did some reading about it last year and saw several pages about some company that had already successfully hacked it.

EV West, has a complete drive train, software batteries, control modules. The whole set up will cost about as much as buying a Model 3. But If you wanted to preserve a classic car it is a great way to go. They also have kits that use non Tesla hardware.

So then the price of that drop out is a good deal b/c you get the cradle, suspension, brakes, maybe even a steering rack in there somewhere.
