so I've wanted to remove the sunroof from my 88 GT for some time now. I had bought a hardtop from a friend a few years back but on the way home it fell over in my truck and the clip cracked at the top of the "A" pillars. I decided this weekend I was going to swap out the tops. First I cut the ragged ends of the HT clip and then made a template to match the shape on the SR clip. Then using a thin coping saw I cut a straight line from the template. I removed the SR top and gave it a test fit. only off by a mm or so, shaped it with some sand paper and perfect fit.
Now I know its not the best way to do it. But it took me a long time to find a good condition hard top, and even after I had broke the "A" pillars it was still a good top, no delamination and no cracks. I plan to cut a "V" into the area where the two meet, and for now fill it with some SMG, later i'll glass the two parts together but for now it should work.

What was the final straw in moving you to action on this? Leaking?

it suspect it was leaking but not from the gasket, it would not fit tight at the glass, i just could not get it to seal tight. I asked if there was anyway to get the top to fit better, but never really got an answer. I was not a fan of the sunlight coming in from above and I had put some 3M vinyl on the glass, it was the same color red as the body. I guess the final nail was when I went to redo my stereo system, I wanted to remove the factory Sub-woofer as a complete unit, and had to take the headliner down to get it all out in one piece. Once I had the headliner out I figured why not just go all the way. Cutting off the A pillars was not difficult and in the end I just like the car w/ out a sunroof. I guess I'm weird b/c I also like the GT w/out a rear spoiler too.

I bought a new gasket for the sunroof on my 85 and it still leaked. I ended up siliconing it shut to stop the leaks. I will not buy a Fiero with a sunroof again. ------------------ 86 GT built 2.2 ecotec turbo rear SLA suspension QA1 coilovers on tube arms

No, I don't think you're weird at all.
I agree too. I feel the same way... as if I'm in a greenhouse. After my first Fiero, I didn't want a sunroof again. Lucky for me, I found one with a hardtop.
When you're outside on a very hot day, would you rather sit under the sun or under the shade of a tree?
And I think fastback looks better without a wing too.

Plus, the hardtop looks better too. Looks smooth & clean.

Very good fix. I don't want to own Fieros with sunroofs, T-tops nor convertible tops. A solid targa top might have been ok.

Not weird at all, I took my spoiler of my 87 GT the day I bought it.
