Got a line on some 17" VW wheels. Not sure what model they are off of, just that they are 5 x 100, 57.1 hub. See pic, if anyone can identify, please LMK. Two of the wheels have tires, 215/50x17. Will these be okay used on the front of an 88 Formula with Rodney Dickman ball joints? Can I use a 235/50 on the rear? Wheels also come with (2) 1/2" spacers I can use on rear if neccesary. Thanks!
Forgot to mention: current tires are 195/65 (f), 225/60 (r). PO installed.[This message has been edited by Habanera Hal (edited 03-06-2020).]

The 215/50-17 tires are 25.5 inches in diameter- they will work well in back, but you probably want something a bit shorter up front....Maybe a 205/50-17.....or a 195/50....
Don't have a clue what those wheels are off of....

I think those are a Golf rim. [This message has been edited by Spadesluck (edited 03-06-2020).]

I just picked them up. Seller said they came off his MK V Golf, though I don't think they came from the factory as he had 1/2" spacers to clear the front struts and most VW wheels have a 38 offset. They are 17 x 7 JJ, marked inside as "Offset 55". I guess I'll get some 1" spacers (26mm) to effectively make them a 39 offset which according to http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp should work fine.
The two tires are worn out so I have no loss replacing them. I'll look for some 195/50's for front, maybe 225/50's in rear.

See if you can use the 55 mm offset up front because that will cut down the scrub radius.....Less kick-back from bumps and easier turning.....Definitely need spacers for the rear!

Thanks for the input.
In researching tires and offset combos, I think I've found a good set-up:
Tires - Nitto Geo Gens Front: 215/45 x 17, Rear 225/45 x 17
Wheels - 17 x 7, 55 offset with 1/2" spacers front (effective offset 42), 1" spacers rear (effective offset 39)
Does this sound right/appropriate/okay/safe?
Forgot to mention - car is 88 Formula with slightly lowered front (possibly Rodney's ball joints installed by PO)[This message has been edited by Habanera Hal (edited 03-06-2020).]
