I imagine it's a spring compressor, but has anyone seen/used one like this for valve springs? The manufacturer isn't proud enough to put a name or part number on it. It just says MADE IN USA WEAR SAFETY GLASSES Found at a junkyard for $2.08. But I found over $3 in change.

Yes and it's made by Lisle. It's to remove the valve springs while the head is still on the car. Then to reinstall the springs, you have to remove the spark plugs and use compressed air to hold the valve back in place so you can reinstall the springs.

It looks like it will be very application specific. The threaded portion should screw down to where the rocker stud mounts. Thread diameter, pitch, location and length will all come into play.
