Scabbing parts off an 85 (Page 1/1)

So there is an old 4 cylinder 85 that has been sitting in the field since 1997. I have an 86 v6 4-speed so I know 99% of the blown engine is useless to me. But, I am scabbing some of the interior parts and was wondering if there are certain things I should scab while I am at it?

I got the dash plastics and plastics around the radio. I got the ash trays and such. I also got the front speaker covers. I think I might take the center console because it still looks and feels pretty descent. It is a brown interior but I figure if need be I could paint pieces to match my gray?

I took both covers off the back engine compartment too.

Any other suggestions of things that might be useful on my 86?

Any and everything might be useful, sooner or later. I have a complete 'parts car', many do.
There are upsides and downsides to a parts car. A downside is where to keep it. An upside is the parts are stored on the car, along with all hardware needed (in place).

Some things you might be able to sell. The brown/tan interior is more rare, worth more than grey. I wouldn't paint it. Grey is almost a dime a dozen.

Unfortunately, my brother says I have about two or three weeks to scab parts and then he is junking what's left? I am going to try to get as much of the brown interior as I can. I may even try to get the headlight motors and such as well as anything else I can unbolt in that front compartment? The engine looks like it has already been scabbed out quite a bit.

I am waiting on a bit cooler weather so all the bees are less aggressive! Plus, today I saw a snake slither up into the dash!!!!! My first thought in Ohio was copperhead!!?? I kinda wanted to get as much of the gauges as possible, but now I am not so sure...LOL

Yes, get the headlight motors and the isolation relay mounted on the left fender wall next to the headlight. Get the trunk solenoid if it has one. You could get the 5-speed Isuzu trans, shifter and cables and upgrade. Shift surround would be a good thing to grab if it's still good, along with any other interior hard vinyl that isn't separated.

The gauges may be different. Backlight vs reflective lighting. I know the tach on the two are different electronics. The 85 tach in the 86 will read 50% higher. Get the cruise control apparatus in the engine bay; canister, dashpot, cable and dump solenoid. Grab the evap canister if equipped. Rear view mirror if the silver reflective surface is still good. They often start to peel near the day/night toggle. Sun visors are always a good grab if they're good.

Side marker lights if they aren't faded out or broken. The quarter windows if they are good.

I'd suggest studying your 86 very carefully and taking note of every broken/damaged part.
To not miss any problems, search the car in some organized fashion, such as working your way from front to rear.

Whatever is broken on your 86, those are the replacement parts you should focus on getting from the 85.

My 86 is actually running really well now that I got the clutch issues all sorted out. I have just been trying to think ahead of things I may need in the future or things others may want for their Fiero. I'm not really interested in selling parts, but if someone needs something off the 85 4 cylinder I would probably just give it to them.

Get everything! Put it on a trailer and take it home put it in the backyard. Our cars are only going to get more rare. Window glass and motors are getting hard to find. Fenders , quarters and door skins, too. Fuel tank, cradle, brake calipers, etc. Seriously, If you can find a place for it, take the whole car.

Well, I am gonna try to talk my brother into just putting it on a trailer and bringing it here I think..... Until then, I am still taking parts off and putting them in boxes in my garage attic
