My 3.4L V6 has a squealing belt that needs to be dealt with. The car is an '85 GT; the engine was pulled from a '95 Camaro. There doesn't appear to be a tension pulley that I can adjust, and at any rate I'm not a competent enough mechanic to fix this (it's a bit tough to get to...). Can someone help me out with this or recommend a trustworthy mechanic? I'd really like to get this belt to stop slipping before I try and show off the car to some old friends who are coming into town on the 22nd...
Thanks for reading------------------ '85 GT 3.4 L

It's probably the alternator/water pump belt that needs to be snugged up.
Don't take this the wrong way... but if you're not a "competent enough mechanic" to tighten an alternator belt, owning a 34 year old car could get expensive to maintain.

Talk around with local friends and family for a good, trustworthy repair shop. Any mechanic worth his salt will be able to fix you up properly. It is just a belt squeal.
There are honest people out there.

It's refreshing to see someone on the Forum admit to their limitations. How many times have we seen people start repairs, upgrades or swaps that are far beyond their comprehension, resulting in unfinished or unsafe vehicles?
I applaud your honesty and self knowledge, Mr. Phosphor Burn!
(I'm not sure I want to know how you came up with your screen name.....)

Heh... let me clarify: I understand the problem and how to fix it, but I haven't spent a lot of time working on my own cars and I'm only just starting (now that I own my dream Fiero) to collect the tools and experience that I need to maintain this car. My aim is to become a lot more competent than I am-- I just want some guidance as I'm starting out so I don't screw anything up. I've already dismantled and rebuilt the passenger side window mechanism and both headlamp motors, replaced plugs and wires, and a couple other small things, so I'm not totally useless.
The belt configuration on mine appears to be different from the stock '95 Camaro as well (based on the diagrams I've seen when looking it up).

Contact "Anavarin" on here. He does mechanic work and lives in Vancouver. Don't know anything about his rates. Group of nine Fiero's made the trip to Mt. Saint Helens today and Alex was among us! Good luck on the fix, and welcome. Look up Fiero's Northwest on FB, post your needs there, too.

Saw Anaverins Instagram post about the St Helens trip. I'm bummed. 😞 I wanna go next time. Probably went right by my place too.

The group is headed to Crater Lake Sept. 14th! Get that car ready. Unfortunately, we can't make that trip.
