Another New Guy! (Page 1/2)

Hello Everyone! Love this site and big thank you to all that contribute. After many years of yearning/wanting, I finally made the plunge and purchased my first Fiero. I hauled it from Kansas to Michigan last weekend. In the short time i've had it home, I smile when I open the garage door and see it parked.

It runs well and cosmetically is super clean, however i'd like to systematically start going through things to ensure there aren't any potential problems lurking. Outside of the basic "consumable" stuff - I am very interested to know if I could get some suggestions on where to start - a small (?) list of the most known/prone things that I should proactively check - from "most likely could be a problem soon" to "nice to do". I've spent quite a bit of time here (the forum), but have not stumbled across such a list.....

I am the 3rd owner - original owner ordered the vehicle from dealer in March of 1986 and had kept it until earlier this year. 2nd owner purchased and had quite a few things done as the vehicle sat for a few years. The list of things that were addressed by 2nd owner:

New fuel pump, strainer and filter
New A/C compressor, A/C belt and R12 to 134 kit
New heater core
New coolant
New distributor cap/rotor
New tires all around

The car has 16,000 miles and the 1st owner kept very good maintenance/recall records.

Any input would be greatly appreciated....

Year? Engine? Pictures please! Would check if shocks are blown if they are still original, wouldn't hurt to replace them regardless. I got replacement shocks/ struts on rock auto that are OEM or better for about $100 after rebate for all 4 corners. My shocks on the front were about as easy to expand and compress as a slinky.

Pictures can be annoying to post on here by the way

Welcome to the forum. If it were me I would just drive the car and fix as needed. Sometimes we get to wrapped up in fixing what is not broke then not actually enjoy the car.

Very nice, looks to be exceptionally clean! Hope to see you around the forum and possibly MI car meets/shows.

I agree that on an old car you don't need to always fix what is not broken but there is a such thing as preventative maintenance. If the coolant hoses and belts are original I would replace them, check the air filter, the trans oil, do an oil change and grease all the fittings.
