Sadly, this happens to some degree every year. Anytime there is a large car event which a high concentration of valuable cars/parts, someone will try to take advantage of the situation. With this being the 25th anniversary, they are expecting 5000+ cars.
I forget which HRPT and location, but a few times I have stayed at hotels that offered 24 hr security in the parking lot to protect the cars. So far, none of the hotels I have used this year have had security.[This message has been edited by fieroguru (edited 06-10-2019).]

I can't believe that a guy would build a beautiful car and then not have a security system.......On my Fiero I figured out which fuse was for the fuel pump, and could pull it by feel- good luck starting it- and nobody would know where and how that hadn't had a Fiero for a while.
On my 73 mach 1 w/ 5.0 FI engine, I had a timer on the fuel pump circuit- any time you started the car- or, after putting it in gear, if you opened a door, the timer would kill the pump after 30 seconds....the reset switch was one of the screws that held the dash in place...I had a professional Car Alarm guy tell me he could find the switch...after 20 minutes he came back inside and said he was stumped...It was just a Radio Shack momentary switch that I had filed a slot in the top of- so it LOOKED like a screw. I also had a siren hooked to the door light switches- so the alarm didn't sound everytime a dork on a Harley rode by- only when you opened the door.

sadly a lot of thief's bypass the security or fuel pump issue by just towing them off with a wrecker that fits in a pickup bed. Think hidden repo man.

The only sure way to recover a stolen vehicle is with a built in GPS security tracking system. With such a system you go online and find out its exact GPS location. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. I also always turn the wheels to the left when parking......Yes, I know, they can just bust the column.....At least it requires more effort to steal......
Also, I pick cars that nobody wants to steal.......Comet GT, Mustang II (I didn't even enjoy driving it!), Fiero, Escape and minivan.....Even my Mustang was the un-loved 73.......Although I did swap out the 5 mph bumper (110 lbs) for the 71-72 bumper (20 lbs).......

Couple small tips to help keep your Fiero from being stolen. NOTHING is going to absolutely prevent it, but you can thwart their attempt or slow them down and maybe someone will notice.
An alarm system helps... not much, but it can garner some unwanted attention for sure. As mentioned pulling the fuse for the fuel pump is great! I actually installed a hidden switch to cut the fuel pump. When parking the car, try to pull it up to something stationary, such as a wall, pole, curb ect. Set the E-Brake, and turn the front wheels as far as they will go to the side. This makes it difficult to pull the car onto a flat bed, as the front will turn to the side when being pulled backwards.
Enjoy the tour everyone, have a good time and be safe!

Pull the coil wire. Not even a smart thief keeps one in their back pocket.
For the crooks with a rollback..... Your only true safeguard is to install a hidden GPS system.

As you all well know, the Fiero has something in common with the Ford Pinto,....namely, the Media and most car "Enthusiasts" think they are both fire-bombs......30 years ago, when I worked at NAS Alameda, a guy who drove his Pinto to work every day put a "Flammable" sticker on the back of it- I thought that guy had the greatest sense of humor!
Anyway, just plaster your Fiero with "Flammable" stickers and nobody will want to steal it- unless they are suicidal!

That is absolutely hilarious and I just might pick one up next time I’m at the depot.
