Interesting question about the Fierostore rear strut brace (Page 1/2) |

I find it curious that that the Fierostore rear strut brace only works on the 86-87 GT. I thought the only difference in Fiero strut tower geometry was between all years of Fiero vs. 88? So then their strut brace wouldn’t work on my 85 GT? Why not? I’m at a loss here since I thought only 88’s had a different shock/strut tower design? Yes, I should contact the Fierostore and ask them but I wanted to run it by you guys first. Thanks, Kit

The problem is that it will not clear the hood. Same chassis different clearances for square bodies than fastbacks.

It's bling anyway, doesn't add any structural rigidity.

Bing! Winner! Yup. An other scam product to take your money. They do very little or nothing for many other cars too.
Fiero already has a tower brace as the trunk wall w/ more bracing under the carpet all welded to the towers.
If you change find measurable flex on the frame in the rear you better be looking big rust and other problems like people cut up the trunk w/ no clue.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. I knew it wouldn’t be long before I heard negative stuff about the rear strut brace. It’s all good. I happen to love them and the seat of my pants tell me they work. (so there!) Chief, thanks for confirming that the issue of non Notchie fitment is the decklid. Regards, Kit

Well it doesn't add any that is needed. I wonder if a really rusty Fiero had one if it would add some rigidity?

No. Because Many rust out between the tower and rear "firewall" for the cabin. And any/all cradle mount areas on bottom. So the frame and cradle will try to twist/break at these points regardless of cradle bushing type.
Ignoring Vendors Claims. Most buyers claim they help have buckshot the car w/ parts like also used cradle bushing kits and "rebuild" the suspension by whatever method have no proof because of this.
Biggest twist loads happen across the cabin. And not just Fiero. And Not just rusty cars. You often can actually feel this happen on many vehicles by laying a hand across top of A pillar and windshield joint while driving. Likely can measure this too in several ways. Full Roll cage welding into the cabin might reduce but may not stop it. Roll cages for real race cars are part of the whole frame for them and don't = to Street cars trying to be race cars.

OMG I didn't want to stir anything so I didn't say anything. But I was close to replying that you are really gonna get Ogre going.
I was going to say that you are going to get a complete lesson on the molecular biology of rust, and how and where the strut tower brace could and could not help a rusted frame, based on the linear square inches and the precise location of where the rust is located, and if penetration had occurred on a lateral induction support beam.
I guess I was right LOL!!!!![This message has been edited by JohnWPB (edited 05-22-2019).]

My comment wasn't negative, it was factual.
The devices are very beneficial in some automobiles, but the Fiero isn't one of them, and for many reasons.
If you like the look, go for it!
