absolutely no spark- SHE'S FIXED !!!! (Page 1/2)

Ok you guys...and gals, who were keeping track of my ignition problem of no spark. Well, as the topic title states, SHE'S FIXED ! The problem came down to be the distributor. I installed a brand new Cardone unit, and my Formula started right up like she just rolled off the assembly line.
If you recall, I first replaced the ignition module with no avail, then moved on to the coil with also no results. I was then going to replace the ignition coil, until one of you suggested I just buy a whole new distributor. Well, thanks on that one, cause I'm sure glad I did. And when I first took it out of the shipping box, man was I happy . A brand new, shinny, complete distributor for the total cost of around $85 dollars. That included FED -ex speedy shipping.
So the Formulas once again up and running. Thank you all who participated in my other post.

editors note. since most of the ignition parts replaced were good to start with ( hey I made a joke.... to START WTH , get it...hahaha) Im gonna sell the stuff. Go to the mall if you want it.

That's great.....but why a new thread?
fierofrenzy FEB 24, 10:22 AM
I started a new tread because my original one ( absolutely NO SPARK ) is somewhat down the list. I wanted to get the attention of as may menbers on here as I could to help
educate everybody on a potential Fiero issue.
If I could save someone the time and trouble of what I had to go through to fix my problem, then I can contribute to the help everybody gives me on this site.
If someone in the future has this problem, hopefully they'll remember the fix due to this...
That's abut it...good answer ?

not really..... .......post your fixed text on your old thread and it will then be at the top of the list....and readers will know the whole story.

I would like to suggest; Keep a spare Ignition module in your car along with the tools to swap it......I have had 2 die on the road.........So now I can just swap in a working one and be on my way. I also carry a spare coil- But I believe I have solved that problem by mounting the coil on the trunk wall and adding a heat shield to keep exhaust heat away from it; Used a laser Thermo and tested as mounted originally, after a morning drive to work it was at 150*.....mounted in the new location it is at 120*..........

Bob, I've got to agree 100% with Gall here. It makes no sense whatsoever to start a new thread to post the outcome of a previous troubleshooting discussion. The original thread now remains unresolved (and basically useless) for anyone down the road who comes across it.

Not ENTIRELY true, the last post in the old thread (as of 5 minutes ago) says

"He fixed it".

So people WILL know that it was fixed, just not how or what fixed it, unless they go searching for a second thread and figure it out

There's hardly anything in a distributor... if you changed the ignition module, and the pickup coil, then that leaves the magnet as the culprit?

Can you feel cogging in your old distributor as you turn it by hand? Cogging torque is caused by the magnetic attraction force that arises as the bent steel fingers on the shaft come close to the fixed set of fingers.

If you don't feel any cogging effect, that implies that the magnet has lost its magnetization, or that the fingers have corroded so much that they don't come in close proximity anymore.
