Replacement fastback clip. Maybe using notchie decklid, vents and lights? (Page 1/2) |

Looking at the PPG cars and wondering if there is a market for something like this

I'm thinking about making an actual 100% stock looking replacement for those who want to use fastback components and another that uses the notchie parts and looks like the PPG. Thoughts? Priced at about $1200[This message has been edited by Slammed (edited 11-28-2016).]

Maybe I'm confused. I meant have one version that is a strict stock replacement for original fastback. Using fastback tail lights, decklid, inserts and vents.
and a second version for people who have a notchie, using the notchie tail lights, decklid and vents with a custom lip to add to the notchie decklid. Everything below the belt line is the same for notchies and fastbacks. I can't make the decklid or vents for the GT so this would give people who want a fastback the option to keep their decklid, vents and lights, but have the fastback. It will look nearly identical to the PPG, but use fastback sails and will be the shape of the actual Fiero fastback.[This message has been edited by Slammed (edited 11-28-2016).]

I think shipping would be a killer if you were planning to keep the rear clip as one piece. If you were planning to have fiberglass side pieces that would have to be glassed into the original clip, I think that requires a decent amount of skill to be done properly and the people with those skills could probably create their own. Just my thoughts. Also I could see people having difficulty acquiring fastback grills and inner sail pieces.

I addressed both the vents and inner pieces, it wouldn't use fastback parts. It would be in 4 pieces, thermoformed from 1/4" ABS. Glues very easily.

Sounds cool, Id say put some 3d renders up to help clarify. I do know a lot of people love the PPG styling, including myself. Would the buyer need to do any fiberglassing or filling?

Just gluing and sanding where it has been glued
The renders I did for the interior took tens of hours and were only made because it was completely custom. We have a good representation with the PPG pictures. It will use the actual fiero fastback shape, taken from an actual Fiero clip, minus the last 6 or so inches towards the rear where it will look like the PPG cars.[This message has been edited by Slammed (edited 11-28-2016).]

Ahh my bad, I see where you mentioned that now in your post. Interesting idea. Would be interested in seeing how the seams would turn out. If it is an easy process to glue the pieces together and smooth over the seams you should talk with Archie and see about making his wide arch kit this way.

Before you commit to making these out of ABS you might investigate using PP (polypropylene) at a minimum thickness of 3mm (0.118").

Polypropylene is tough to glue and isn't compatible with most 2k paints. And at 3mm, after forming it would be less than .08 which is not even close to acceptable.
