Winds of change? (Page 1/4)
kjelle69 MAR 10, 04:11 AM
After driving my GT-88 for almost 20 years the thoughts have come up to change to another sports car.
This wont be easy, a lot of mods and tlc have been put into the Fiero and it Always feels safe to have a big Community like this to backup whenever questions appear.

So my open question to all Fiero lovers out there. IF you would change your Fiero, what would you change to?

My wishlist looks something like this:

1. Manual Gearbox
2. Cab or targa
3. At least 250 hp
4. Preferrably reasonable MPG
5. Must be really fun to drive
6. Preferrably a two seater.
7. Good Community of Tech-skilled fans (Like this one)
8. RWD or AWD.

since you haven't mentioned leg room, it sounds like a corvette to me .

I was eye balling the Subaru BRZ myself. It doesn't meet #3 but they are talking of releasing a forced induction model in 2015.

I would vote for C4 Corvette with 6 speed transmission. You can find lower mileage ones at reasonable prices if you shop around. I presently own the 87 Fiero GT and a 92 Corvette and enjoy driving both. They have their little quirks like the Fiero so you will still have an intimate affair with your car.

I have been thinking a bit about this one:

They are easy enough to get 300 HP out of. But yeah, if they ship a BRZ with the DIT FA20 instead of the N/A version, it starts at 300 HP. The BRZ is also a limited production car, so it's easier to find the Scion FRS to buy (at least in the US). The BRZ is a nicer car though.

Considering how much it costs to get any of the cars mentioned, I would be very tempted to do a bare frame rebuild on another 88 Fiero with new drive train parts. Then you get the driving enjoyment you already know, plus more power, and probably save money too. Your location is a factor...getting all the parts to the right rebuilder may make this option more expensive than I expect.
