thats one of the early fiberglass 308's huh? thus the high price. thats whats cool about the Mera, all glass. sometimes tho it would be cool to knock on metal, sometimes. feeling of solidity. does any body know the difference, in weight, between the OG Fiero SE (in my case) vs. the Mera package.how many pounds? + or -. just curious. thanks. Later-

Really hard to pin down the stats on the F-car, but I understand the fiberglass model weighed in at about 2300#. The 3 L dry sump V-8 may have been lighter than the 2.8 V-6. I have heard that the GT weighs about 2800#. Using these figures the Mera may be lighter than the GT, but after lifting the hood and boot of the Mera, I doubt it.

Check out this link, and hit on the download for Fiero Spec Sheets. Provides all the specs for various years, including weight. You may want to save a copy after you download it.

There is only one reference that I've ever seen on the weight of the Mera, and it's in the Car and Driver article here. Even in the Mera sales brochures, I've never seen any advertised weight.

I agree with Dick, the side panels may be the same/similar weight, but the front and back lids are definitely a lot heavier. The front lid is so heavy I could probably use it to crack open coconuts here.

before reading the article, I thought Fieros were metal. learning every day. OG panels are lighter than re-body, that sucks. the weight in the article was based on a manual. is the auto. trans. lighter??? [This message has been edited by batousai666 (edited 09-24-2009).]

Good references, Tom, thanks. My car came from the same dealer as in the article.
"Cracking" coconuts on Turagi Beach, ca.1967

Interesting kit, '87 w/48k miles, $8k. Wonder what no top does for structural integrity.

Hey Dick, now THAT's funny! Jeez, Turagi Beach...that's down in the South Pacific isn't it?
That kitcar looks very nicely done, but would have looked better with flush-fitting headlight doors. I imagine if done right, he would have installed one of those big "X" braces under the frame to keep the body from flexing. I dunno...I'm just not feeling the love for a convertible 308 look.
LOL...I'd rather pay $8K to have a nice garage like that!!

He has some pretty neat toys in the background--is that an Ariel Atom or a Wrightspeed X1 parked next to it?[This message has been edited by reholmes (edited 09-26-2009).]
