| Does anyone still build or care about 308 body kits? (Page 7/11) |

Paul: Measured today and as near as I can tell, the flare looks like it will add about 4".
Measuring from the point on the panel where the flare or "lip" emanates from, the stock lip protrudes approx. an inch and three quarters to the outside. From the same point on the wide body panel, the lip protrudes approx. five and three quarters inches, so we're talking about adding 4" on each side.
This can only be a "guestimate" since a finished panel with the wide body piece in place doesn't exist at present.
As I said earlier, these panels look like they could be cut up to use any part of or all of the extension, so it would be a truly "custom" addition, left up to the builder to determine exactly how wide one wanted to go.
Rob, was nice seeing you at the 30th, sure didn't expect to hear about your car biting the dust on the way home though! Bummer! Looks like you have a great helper there and a future Fiero aficionado on your hands!
Bob, I might think about doing a build thread if I was actually building....at this point, I'm still pretty much collecting parts and trying to figure out first of all how to proceed, and second, when I'll actually have time to spend doing it.
Take a look at this pic:

Notice anything?
I did. Had never seen any pic of that wide car, other than the red one posted above in this post, that I recall.
When trying to fit the panel onto the body, kept wondering why the "scoop" depression wasn't aligning with the one in the body....now I know why...it goes in the back!
Tomorrow, I'm going to fit the panels to the car in their correct orientation and see what we've got. This also makes more sense where the rockers are concerned. The unusual angle I was talking about earlier, should be "right" when mated up to the opposite end of the quarter panel extensions. Leads me to further believe, we have the molds to produce the wide body parts, as there are also a couple different front spoilers, but I'd have to dig through the molds again to see for sure.
At any rate, if you look at the pics above of just the quarter panels, imagine them being the other way on the car and it'll make more sense.
Live and learn I guess.

Thanks Nolan!
Before starting to play with this stuff, I had only seen the picture way at the top of this thread, which doesn't really show the back of the car, and believe it or not, I had never heard of that wide body kit, so had no reason to ever look it up before.
Shouldn't really change the measurements I got today, as they were made at the center of the wheel well, which is the same, coming or going! But it DOES change the fitment of the new panels to the existing body, and I'm guessing they will match perfectly with all contours, unlike when you try to put them on backwards!
Really is a mean looking machine with all the "girth" happening... You'd have to run some "phat" rims and tires though!

Ok, here are the pictures of how these panels are SUPPOSED to be on the car.
Didn't clamp the rockers in place, but you can see how they will work together with the quarter panels to create the wide body "look":

Keep in mind, none of the panels are attached to the frame in these pics, they are all just kind of "hanging" there, so nothing lines up like it should/will when finished, but it gives a general idea.
Checked briefly today, and found a mold that makes a chin spoiler that looks suspiciously like the front end of that wide bodied car, but can't say for certain without actually laying one up and that's not in the cards at the moment. Maybe if I can free up some time, but don't see that happening anytime soon either.
So that's where this is at. Anybody interested in any of these parts can contact Doug.
These parts would make a most unusual body, and needless to say, will take quite a bit of work to pull off!
One 'O' these days.................................

Thanks!
Very cool and tempting for a second car. I'm going to have to think long and hard about this. The ideal thing for me would be to find a Fiero that already has a 308 kit and go from there. Not a project for right now but maybe in the future.
Does anyone know if there are there kits that use the MR2 rear window? It would be nice to find a way to make it look closer to the real deal.

None that I've ever seen or heard of although Archie's gang did retro-fit one in an old Dino kit. There are several good photos in this thread showing how they modified the metal work to mount it: www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/090962-3.html starting about a quarter of the way down.
I'm planning to use the same technique for my F355 project.

Nolan:
I plan on using the MR2 rear glass when I put mine together. Already have the glass, you can find them on ebay fairly reasonable.
Does take some fabrication though. I don't know of any kit that is made specifically to use it, but if you haven't seen it already, take a look at how Archie and crew did the one in their 246 Dino build:
http://www.fiero.nl/forum/F...1/HTML/090962-3.html
As much or more metal fab work involved as fiberglass, but I'd say the end result is worth the effort.

YIKES!! Reminds me of that ugly Corvette that got modified to death and then the owners got super butthurt about it.

It might look better without the 747 tail wing on the back. But, to each their own. [This message has been edited by Sourmug (edited 05-21-2014).]
