88 database guy (Page 66/75)

Ideally once this is up, I'll look for a few volunteers to moderate and do data entry. I still have a car to put back together!

If the database is online, use checkboxes, rather than text fields, for the options. I don't have an issue with multiple people adding data, but each should have their own logon to do so, and the logon should be tracked for each change. Also, what happens to the database/site if you go wherever the original guy went?

I really like your idea about check boxes, and as far as anyone being able to log in and but be able to track anyone entering the data for accountibility, I might be ok with, but what happen to the other car database I was involved with (NOT FIEROS), trolls started changing exterior colors and mostly engines sizes. Now for a fiero the engine thing isnt a issue but exterior, interior color and options would be. Just my 2 cents.

You could only grant access for a few people. Every change they made should be logged. If there is an issue, lock their account. Changes could then easily be deleted. Trolls couldn't access. Think of it like a forum. There are only a few admins. Users wouldn't have to log in, but they could only search.

Heck, why limit the database to '88's?

Hey sundowner, were you able to get it up and running?????
FIERO JOHN-WI AUG 22, 08:19 AM
Any updates on the 88 database

Hey guys, thanks for advice here... it's appreciated. I wound up getting a bit behind this week so it's taking a little longer than I'd hoped.

The new site will be 88fiero.com, Anyone that wants to be a mod will get an email address xxx@88fiero.com (if they want it)

I do like the idea of opening it up to all years - lets just see how this one works first. If you guys like it - we can rebrand it and expand.

Full disclosure: If this begins to pick up web traffic in the Fiero community, I'll look to incorporate some non-intrusive advertising to offset the cost and time investment I make to build this out.
