A Real Mera in Paradise (Page 651/713)
hnthomps FEB 10, 04:26 PM
Well, I have come up with a new way to crunch a nice Mera, even when it is sitting in my basement unoccupied. I had a company at my house doing some foundation stabilization work today. This company uses a 40,000 psi hydraulic device to push pipe to a specified resistance level and offer additional support for the foundation. These 3 plus inch steel pipes are driven vertically into the ground and then attached to a foundation connection to provide the extra support.

One of the pipes apparently bent into a full half circle and punched through my basement floor right into the lower quarter panel on the front passenger side. The car ended up hanging about six inches off of the floor but I got it shut off in time to prevent an additional three feet of pipe from protruding. I actually had to jack the car up fairly high and then cut off the pipe prior to being able to get the car back on four wheels. Now I have a broken slab as well as a damaged vehicle. Note that this was my primary show car to make it even worse. The bottom of the quarter panel is folded flat and all of the internal supports are broken. It looks like a lot of fiberglass work as well as a complete custom pain job to get the car back where it was and that will take several months at best.

I will post a few photos once I can resize some of the HD shots.

Nelson

I don't usually post in this thread but is Dan still alive? He hasn't made a post since July of last year.

Speaking of post, Nelson, how the hell did that pole go through your floor so perfectly? More importantly, is your garage floor structurally ok if a pole went through it so easily? We don't want a sinkhole like the GM center

Oh Nelson, that's just awful! Maybe EVM_Rob can supply a repair panel (if he is still making panels)? http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/087053.html

Didn't he sell off the molds he created? I've attempted to contact EVM_rob on a couple of occasions with no luck. The e-mail listed in the members list no longer works and no luck thru PM's. I even googled his business with no success. Sure hope he's ok.

I will chime in on this.

He has moved. I don't know what is going on personally in his life but be careful if you order from him. I ordered some fiberglass parts for my 308 project and have been getting the run-around. I ordered $1000 in fiberglass parts in September 2015. He said they would ship in October. December 2015 he told me his dad died and he was moving his mother and everything would ship after that. Several months later nothing. He finally shipped my taillights and marker lights after several emails. The fiberglass pieces I ordered were not shipped. Several emails and excuses he finally shipped one piece (my tail panel) the middle of 2016. I am still missing the sail spoiler, two rockers and a ferrari script for the rear. My last email basically said I was done begging for my parts and consider myself screwed over. He replied that we would ship the remaining parts but of course I received nothing.

So I warn you to be careful if you do get his information.

I will send you his email address if you want. Heck, i'll even post the entire email transaction since the start if you want to see it.

I do not think that it went through too easily. I was in the basement when it happened and the floor breaking sounded like a shotgun. Lots of things shook for a moment and then I heard the second but lesser noise. I went over to the area where it came from and noticed that my car (under a cover) was elevated and shaking. I ran outside and told them to shut down the equipment just before they fed another three feet through the car.

This pipe originated about 35 feet away and was supposed to be vertically driven into the ground about 42 feet at the time of the incident. Apparently something either deflected the pipe to bed it in a half moon or the pipe penetration point filled up with rock and then started deflecting instead of pushing the soil out of the way. BTW, the drive mechanism was dual 20 ton hydraulic jacks operated at around 3500 psi. My basement floor is 3000 psi concrete with wire mesh. The damaged area is at least four inches in thickness and the wire mesh was also severed by the pipe. I will need to replace part of the slab, rebuild the front end, and repaint the entire car to get it right again. Expensive and time consuming to say the least.

I have already told the company that I expect them to fully cover all repairs to the car and basement.

Mr Mikes stuff is very well made and the install is easy thanks to the video and instructions he provides.

I am trying to decide on carpet color, either black or a light tan color, and if I should leave the console and
shift cap like they are or paint them to match the seat upholstery. I plan on keeping the car black when it is painted.

Thank you very much for the warning and I'm very sorry when a vendor treats any one of us badly. Still, I would be interested in having EVM-Rob's email addy. There are few options available for Mera body panels, and it might be helpful. Maybe...
Soon it will be a very long drive to a skilled body shop from here.

I like the black tan combo on your interior. Just an idea...the center surround...make that black as well to tie into the rest of the black. our BMW has the same black peanut butter color combo from the factory!
