Do they test your emissions in your state inspection? (Page 5/5)

The tester said the sniffer test was "random", but I had been getting OBD2 cars smogged, all along, and this was the first time that had ever happened.
Kind of like "random" drug testing, I guess.

I'm thankful that I now live in a county where I don't have to deal with such foolishness.
No way in hell I'd ever live in California. This stuff is just one reason.

Fun story... years ago, I worked for an NFL team as a software developer. They did random weekly drug testing, and for whatever reason, my name kept getting picked in the "random" testing. This wasn't a pee test, but in fact they put you in a chair and then cut a patch of your hair for testing. Once in a while it didn't bother me, but my name was coming up literally almost every single week and my hair was starting to get patchy. I was getting pissed and asked the HR person what the hell was going on. She told me (she was a complete moron, to be clear) that they were required to test a certain number of people per week, and they knew that I would pass, so they kept including me. I was so pissed, I told them if they made me take another one, I was going to quit or go to the team president and let them know what she had said.

... I never got another drug test after that.

This is asinine on so many levels. Ethics aside, if you were tested a week ago, and then "consumed" (anything, really), it's really doubtful that your hair would have grown enough for it to register that soon.

Obviously, we have smog testing here in CA....Back in the 90s I had swapped a 5.0 FI into my '73 mach 1....Had to have all of the systems work- no codes..But what was actually kind of smart was they required that pre-74 cars NOT have a CAT because they could cause a fire (The pre-74 cars didn't have heat shields, etc)

When I swapped in the 3.4 F-body engine into my Fiero, it never was completely happy- but it did pass smog tests....I was planning on moving up to N.CA to small little old gold-rush town called Weaverville, and up there (Trinity County) they do not require smog checks...so I was going to convert to the 7730 system.

Now that I have Lupus, I have to hide from the sun....Where I live now has a lot of fog and stays cooler making it easy to cover up. Weaverville has heat waves 100-115* and typical summer temps above 90...Basically could not go outside during the day. Also, my lake- that I have been going to since 1965 (Trinity) is now empty 7 years out of every decade, so basically unusable.

Weaverville....

Trinity full and empty...

Foresthill's water utility has made some good money selling water out of Sugar Pine, which fills every year and holds more water than they need. People would get annoyed because it drained the reservoir and ruined the nearby camping, but they had money problems and in dry years the water was worth a lot. I guess there won't be a market for that this year.
They've wanted to raise the capacity by replacing a gate that the Feds took away when they sold the place. The project would do no good to the locals, the only value would be if the extra water can be sold often enough to be profitable. If they expect to raise water rates further to pay for it then I doubt it would happen. If the State pays for it then I think it could give Sacramento a hook into the district that the locals wouldn't be happy about.
