you know on second read.....DUH? (forgot how to read).
the Plush Carpet is a Fiero option not a Mera option. right?
that helps also...

Dan, the plush carpet was an option, I believe installed by the same sub-contractor who re-did the interior with that tuck-and-roll style. Rodney says it was done by a local shop, to wit, my search to find upholstery shop(s) near Capac, MI that may have been in business back then.

Dick, here's a pic of my dual struts. It was already installed when I bought it. I doubt they are Rodney's original struts though. That blue label you can see on the left strut provides the number of the strut you can pic up at Checker's.

No problem working on the air filter side. I've removed the top and replaced the filter easily without removing the left strut.

On the battery side, however, I had to remove the strut on one end (I think it was on the hood side, so I could flip it over 180 and out of the way.) But regardless, with or without the strut, it is a little bit of a challenge to remove a battery from a Mera, due to the protruding hinge assembly and the Mera's body panel. I had to tilt it to get it out. Much easier if you stand inside of the trunk area so you're over the battery to maneuver it out. Luckily the battery I have has a small form factor, so it wasn't too bad to remove it. (I removed it to clean and repaint the bracket area.) LOL...its 10x easier to re-install the battery, letting the weight of the battery slide it back in.

Tom

Edit: If I recall, I think I also removed the one bolt holding the EGR bracket, so that could be pushed down a bit to maneuver the battery out.

Do the ends just "pop" off--are they loaded?

Here's my set-up--as you can see the Rodney Mera kit has braces. It appears that the braces are mounted under the shock plate. I'll email Rodney, I'm sure he has an instruction sheet.

Ahhh...I guess my are custom make, looking at the mount on the strut plate. I purchased those same reinforcing rods from Rodney, but never could figure out how to put them on mine, so I don't have them installed. Obviously you'll have to remove them to get the battery out, and probably to even work on the air filter. I think on mine, there is a small opening to slide a screwdriver in and pop the cover off, and they just pull out. In your last pic, you can see that slot on the left side of the strut end to stick a screwdriver in.

Edit: Wow, re-looking at yours, I have a completely different hinge set-up. I have protruding arms, and then what looks like a 1" square tube that goes across the lid and connects to each side
Dan: I've never seen a regular Fiero with that same interior set-up. I think it was unique to the Mera.

Morning all,
the tube/brackets are a Mera thing, exclusive. that i know. but the carpet??
When i first got me car, it smelled like a swamp.
thought it was cuz it was in Florida? but could be some evidence of a flood or open windows for a duration.
thus the need to replace the carpet. the thing is that the floor seems to match the doors. humm....more investigation after work. thanks for the replies.
later-
Daniel
P.S. hey Tom are you talkin my interior or yours?? as far as not seen in a Fiero??
