If we had only known, we could have sent our cars to YOU to sell

Thanks, Patrick. Somehow my brain always seems to make room for images I want to never see again (but can't forget), meanwhile, storage of actually USEFUL information, not so much

But I have to say, I still see folks around here with masks over mouth AND nose, driving (alone) in the car, walking outside (alone), along the street.

Believe me, there were much worse ones I could've picked!Plus, I shrank that one down so that it wouldn't have as much... impact!

He was really excited to tell me all about it.
He knew a guy who worked at GM, so I'm sure he was an expert.
Do you know why they stopped making these cars? Because they catch fire! They had a leak and oil would get on the engine! Yeah, engine.

It was funny how fired up he was, he seemed to seriously think I'd never heard this stuff before.
His enthusiasm carried through the time it took to walk to the store so I didn't say much, and wasn't in the mood anyway. I didn't want to interrupt the guy who drives an $80K Rivian and knows more about my 1980s GM than I do.

This is basically kind of negativism I ever heard from 1990-2015.....If I meet someone who believes this, I just tell them it was only the GREEN ones that caught fire- "But I've never seen a green Fiero..." "Yes- because they all burned up!" >>>>>>"oh"<<<<<

I love that! If I ever get sass about fires, that will be my line.

Last night when I went out to get takeout there was a parcel of young boys in the street playing touch football. Hotdog! I says to myself, these kids are going to flock over when I start up the car! Varoom ... nothing, they didn't even look over. Sheesh.

But at the eatery I pulled up and the old gent in the car part next to me immediately asked about the car and we chatted for a while. Nice compliments.

Was taking our youngest to her swimming lesson this morning, pulled up to a light. BMW driver behind me starts frantically pointing at my car, his wife/GF hold up her phone and snaps some pics. heh.

In general I've gotten more reactions since moving to FL. There's a lot of old cars in rural areas of CA so it didn't stand out as much there.
My car is also in rough shape cosmetically so it's the least likely to attract interest, but it probably looks okay from a distance.

Here in suburban FL I've had random people on the road flash lights at me and giving thumbs up and such. I never saw that in CA. Fairly recent was a lady in a parking lot who got out of her car to take a phone picture. There might be other people who have taken pictures but that was the first time I knew about it.
I'm an introvert so I'm not always comfortable with people who want to strike up a conversation, but I've gotten a little more used to it. It's usually just simple compliments or talking about somebody they knew who had one. Back when I got my first Fiero they were common old cars, not something anybody paid much attention to.

Some people act genuinely surprised that a Fiero still runs. That reaction is funny to me. Old cars are DIY friendly. They don't die from age, they die when people let them go. Kept in good order, they are reliable and the parts are cheap. I did more work on this car in the first 6 months than I did in the following 10 years.
Many people nowadays are conditioned to ignore their car and pay for professional service until it's no longer viable. For those people, only a modern car will work because that's all a mainstream mechanic wants to deal with. Those cars will be insanity for any DIY oriented person down the line, though. They will die when deeper issues emerge that nobody can figure out.
