A Real Mera in Paradise (Page 39/713)

Same here, decklid is heavy, but it does pop (unlock) open. I have dual struts, but I doubt that makes a difference when the lid is in that position. Foam block may help, but not sure how long the "springness" would last. A strategically-placed hood spring may the the way to go. Wonder if there is a way to increase the spring tension on the torsion springs?

Paul V installed Rodney's struts on the car before I bought it--they do a great job holding up the deck, but you are correct, don't help much in that position. Vector analysis would suggest that the downward force is greatest in the near closed position--cosine alpha sort of thing.

Maybe a piece of my Temperpedic mattress would work (I don't really have a Temperpedic mattress).

Just attempted a solution: This is black packing foam--not gray as it appears in the photo--that I Trim Tacked to the deck lid. Quite unobtrusive visually--good color match.

It closes into the dip in the tail light panel.

When closed it is unobtrusive (did I already use that word?).

Oh, one other thing--it works pretty good. Probably will crush over time, but I have lots of this stuff. And as you will note, it took about 1/4 of play out of the latch--probably should adjust that.

Looks like the same issue here. Decklid pops up but will not stay up without a prop rod. Can the tension springs be readjusted to another slot.

Also do any of your Meras have the rubber '"recall weatherstrip" at the back edge of the decklid to seal against ther rear window. My 88 GT has this, but the Mera does not.

I opted for Rodney's double piston air/hydraulic cylinders to get away from the original spring. It also makes it easier to install some replacement engines. They have worked well for a couple of years. All of my MERAs release the latch with the remote release equipment.

None of my MERAs have the recall weather strip installed.

On a different subject: Using the remote on the dash, my deck lid is so heavy that it won't "pop up" enough to clear the latch mechanism--when the solenoid is "unpowered" the lid stays locked. I was thinking of a strategically placed foam block that would hold it clear of the latch.

Anyone else experienced this--what was your solution?

my Trans Am has adjustable rubber screw in things. 2 of them in the corners. pops right up.

just find a spot and drill a hole.
as for the tire question, no the tires do not rub. even on hard corners. I know cuz, all corners are hard corners, the way i drive. i have yet to take off the rims so i do not know the measurement sorry.

Dick, I agree with you. I have the same "plush" carpet. When I removed my center console to install my guage wires, I noticed that they just glued it right on top of the original carpeting. Thus, its really thick against the console area, and the seats drag against it in this area. Would be nice to find out the name of the company that was sub-contracted out to do the interior (I believe yours is just like mine). Just something to add to the history of the car. Wonder if it would still be in business? Rodney says it was not done by Corporate Concepts, but rather by a local (I assume in Capac area) upholstery shop.

hey fellas? Morning?
whilest out questing. i re-read the post about the "plush" carpet and I am wondering if this is a LISTABLE Mera trait? i do not have the double carpet. mine looks very stock, and its seems to be just laid in. there is evidence of newer carpet, only cuz of the stereo/back up camera installs.
like the carpet was replaced "new" after these items were installed for convienence. do you all agree, that the double carpet is a Mera trait? At least.. for the 88's. who else has the double carpet? anyone with a '87 have the double up? can someone post pics. of their lower passenger compartments, drivers and pass. sides. so i may compare, to mine.
thanks in advance.
Dan
P.S. notice the better grammar/punctuation? i have been watching TV with the captions on. its seems to be helping? no??

Think I noted plush carpet on the Mera brochure--don't know if it was year specific. The stuff is decent only when new and one would certainly be tempted to replace it if they weren't trying to remain "stock." Trouble is, it's on the door panels, too.

Another subject: It appears Rodney's strut/brace kit obstructs air filter and battery removal. What is the process for removal/replacement--any special care that needs to be taken?

i have a brochure

i do not like the fact that the copyright is 1987 and refers to both mirrors being powered. unless maybe a early MERA production nod.. could be.
you are right. plush carpet is offered as a Mera option....weird....so is the 3 speed Automatic Trans. this will help qualify my car as a special Mera...one day:P...cool
anyway, what is the leather interior offered with the plush carpet? that ruffley thing on the "glove box" and....?
as far as the list of Mera options, I have all of them but the powered drivers side mirror
and said Plush Carpet with leather interior...sooo close.. to spec.
