I have checked a few exhaust shops, one even made one for a Fiero once. Total cost was well over $1,000...

Hi Cliff, I do understand the frustration of having an American car in Europe! Living in France, the parts cost an arm and a leg to have imported. In general I budget X2 the parts cost to cover shipping, taxes and import dues. If you like we could see together for the next RockAuto order? It may reduce our import costs a bit and we could redistribute the parts to each other with Mondial Relay. For the exhaust system, if you could get the component parts (bends, silencers etc...), I would happily TIG weld them all up for you free of charge. However, it would mean driving to the North West of France. Like you, I don't have a huge amount of space, but I do have a small 1 car garage and enough space in front to store 1 extra car on my land. (Not on the road - same problem here with having a non functional uncertified car on public roads.)

I would think for the exhaust the most expensive parts would be the tips and the mounting brackets. The tubing, cat, and muffler should be pretty universal
|

That's a very nice offer! I don't think we will save on shipping if it's first shipped to either one of us, then shipped to the other. As you know, shipping within Europe is rediculously expensive too... 😕 But I dunno, will have to check that. Maybe it turns out to be a lot cheaper!

Cliff, you can split fit different sets of brake pads, use one pair as inners, the other as outers. Ask any Clio owner, the rear outer pads wear 4x faster because the system is rubbish. EBay global shipping is the cheapest way of getting small heavy items anywhere. Just needs to be packed, measured and weighed accurately, then add 10% to the weight for error. List for £1 / $1, and send a link to the buyer. Obviously there has to be a value, up to the sender what the value of those now Secondhand parts are 🤣, but eBay takes care of the Customs Duty collection and Shipping. If there’s any worry Customs might check it, kicking the empty parts boxes up and down the floor, or sticking multiple , ever lower prices on the boxes, a copy of the eBay auction, should satisfy them the value marked is ‘Valid’.
As Pk said, (Hi PK!), exhaust parts are cheap, it’s the welding that’s the tricky bit. Takes a bit of skill to weld stainless properly. A lot of it can be done off the car though. A new system for my BMW Z3 is going to cost me £250 but £90 of that is the front pipe I bought, the rest is the Cat and two boxes. I’d do it for you too, but Scotland is a fair old trip, and we’re £1.88 a Litre. I’m currently sorting through all the stuff I’ve accumulated over the years, I know there’s Fiero stuff that I’ll never use, like a pair of rear calipers that need seals, which I have. Somewhere. Welcome to them.

I have stirred me noggin and thought of two contacts that have moved to de Nederlands but still return a few times a year to the UK..... Next visit 14JUL. So that may provide more options CP.

I used to live in a simmilar house here in the Netherlands and working on the roadside wasn't fun. Even when I was able to rent a small garage just around the corner I was always walking back and forth to get the tools and parts that were in the other location. I am still happy I could buy a "drive-in" house 10 years ago, now I have a inhouse garage combined with a workshop and my own parking in front of the house. It is a luxury since this street has filled up too with parked cars over the last years. This country lacks space.
Now to Cliff's issues, is the exhaust too far gone to patch up before you find a better/cheaper solution? For APK it only needs to be leakfree. Although SS exhaust parts are not very expensive they can easily add up to a few hundred euros. Cheapest is to collect them yourself. Then my best bet would be to find an enthousiast/hobbiest who has his own project car, can weld and is willing to help out. Even then I guess you might go over the 500eu mark.
As for brakepads, I still have a new set for the rears !
 I compared them to some used ones to be sure and they are the same, even some of the used ones have little wear and still usuable if needed. You can have them.
