hey fella's,
been trying to find that service video online and it seems some things dont live forever on the internet.

few years back I bought a junkyard transmission. mistakes were made and I took their word that it worked good.
when I did install it, I had a hell of a time getting the shifter mechanism back into the housing. I stuck my finger down there and moved a bunch of stuff around, and eventually got it to sit inside.

my ignorant question is: do you think it would it be possible to potentially install that shifter mechanism in such a way where I don't have 1st or 2nd gear (intermediate shaft I presume?)
I have reverse, I have 3rd.. didnt try 4th or 5th.

not really looking forward to swapping in a new transmission, I'm in denial but hoping you guys will cheer me up and say it is possible.

Yes, I did this recently. I wasn't able to engage 1st or 2nd. I could reach all other gears.

This is with a correct, very thin layer of Loctite 518 anaerobic sealant to seal the shifter cover to the case:

Previously, I applied too much Loctite. When I tightened down the cover, the Loctite was forced into the 1st/2nd shaft area, and then the shaft was locked up.

To make it work again, I had to take off the shifter cover, scrape off whatever Loctite I could, and then use heat (in the shaft area), which smacking on the end of the 1st/2nd shaft with a drift punch. Eventually the shaft wobbled loose, and the bushing popped out from the recoil. Then, I was able to clean the parts and reassemble correctly...

For information, the 1st/2nd shaft comes out through the shifter hole; case disassembly is not required to remove it.

I would prefer to buy separate housings, terminals, cable seals, etc, rather than automotive aftermarket ready-made pigtails.
