The real truth is most people don't doctor Fiero or forum photos. Most just have trouble posting them. The reality is most forum photos just lack the true detail that you get by being there in person.
I judge cars for many events, Often paid to judge, Most cars look good from 10 feet or look good if you don't know where to look.
Most people clean the obvious places but not some of the non obvious place.
There was an online Fiero show earlier this year and I could go though and tell you the cars that were really clean vs those that were not. To be fair many were daily drivers and it is hard to keep to a total detail on these cars. Others were show cars but people clearly missed areas that if you look for them make a difference from the good cars to the great cars,.
With that said when buying any car used you need to go in unemotional and really look at a car not really for all that is right but look at it like you are scoring at a car show, Look for what is wrong,. Add it up and if the score is good then you may have found the right car, If it is not adding up then move on and do not make a emotional decision.
People see a car too often and get blinded to the faults and in the end pay dearly for them. If you have trouble with this take a impartial friend to go with you and they may keep you from making an expensive mistake. I once save a buddy from a really bad Corvette this way once.
But yes photos can be doctored but generally most are not as they really don't need to be to hide many faults. Distance does that alone,
I just saw a car in Wisconsin that was for sale I have seen on the web. It looked really good at events. But I saw some of the detail photos and there were some areas that while not horrible were not as good as I had expected the car to be. They were clear and honest photos so I give them a thumbs up on that so if it is an issue later people were shown.
