The 4t65-HD with an LS4 had 303 hp in factory fresh condition and it's known for failing under warranty. One of my 3800sc cars, a Riviera series1.5 charger(?) had a warranty replacement trans which was failing again by the drive chain slipping if you give it any throttle at all. The car had zero mods.

4T60 / 4T60E holds up to a lot of torque.
GM used them behind the 4.9's with few issues.

Joe, that is one of the prototype oil pans from the development of the LS4. So at one point GM considered the starter below the oil pan for the LS4, but opted to move it to the transmission prior to production.

Guru, you are correct. We also used a prototype trans to block bracket, billet aluminium with a GM P/N.

Would the oil pan allow using other manual transmissions such as the Fiero Getrag?

Yes... but you will likely break it (transmission) quick.

I know this is an older thread so forgive me. Can I use this oil pan with an lq9 to do my fiero swap with a 4t80e. I know it's not cheap and starter isn't as well-but I have a new gm lq9 set up with a new carb and trans controller too.I also know you can make some decent power with the ls4 but the 5.3 compared to the 6.0 is night and day difference-and if i'm gonna go through the trouble to do swap I want to run my lq9 with a 4t80e. I'm getting older lol I have huge feet and need and want an automatic ! If this style pan will work what axles do i need to use and where can I get that style pan and starter.. is it available through MOROSO now ? T hanks gang..and Merry Christmas Everyone !

The GM pan pictured was the prototype pan used during the development of the LS4. It was never put into production and only a handful were ever made. If you can find one, it will work.
The moroso version is only available through LS4king and you will need to contact him through facebook. https://www.lsxmag.com/news...a-unique-ls-oil-pan/
