This is done in a very similar manner to the yellow Formula that "alex4mula" built. One of my favorite Fieros ever. It's a Formula with the GT aero bodywork added. (Different from an SE, because it has the round 88/GT moldings.) This was Alex's car.

Two hours?! Weren't you in Florida? Didn't realize you had moved.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 01-23-2019).]

I love the fyrhzrd plate. It's great when people can have a sense of humor at their own expense.

Nope.
Gasoline powered cars 1975 and older are exempt. There is no rolling period in California and probably never will be. California Fieros will require smog checks until they finally force them off the road.

Copied from the DMV site.....
Does my vehicle qualify for a smog exemption?
Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:
Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older Diesel powered 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs Electric Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs. Motorcycle

quote | As of April 1, 2005, exempt from smog check requirements are any motor vehicle manufactured prior to the 1976 model year. All vehicles 1976 and newer vehicles will be tested according to state emission law. This law repeals the 30-year rolling exemption. |

I am wrong, I was looking at an older page.

Well that would be nice. If I do go look at the car it would be to bring it back and put some faith into it. Perhaps even make it a formula hybrid. As for passing SMOG he didn't say but will ask when I talk to him.

This is the root of my question. Even with the body panels and the auto transmission this is still a V6 1988 Fiero. It has been well taken care of and other than a few bolt on modifications that don't fit well in a DD it would be a great car. It does have to pass an inspection and it does have to have a clean title with no accidents. I have a feeling that there is something lurking that keeps a car this nice under $7000 asking price that I see most other 88 cars are being asked for.

California has got you jaded. I see lots of 88s for sale, for way less than $7K. (I paid $2500 for a very decent 88 coupe, including shipping from Vegas to West Atlanta. Spent another hundred or so rebuilding the suspension. It's going to make the perfect swap platform, if the Duke ever dies. Until then, I'm in no hurry to take it apart.)

There is a CA tax on everything out here. But my point was that the car has had a lot of work done, the interior and exterior. It has lower miles for its age and cars that have had this much work usually start with a much higher asking price. I wouldn't expect a stock 88 with normal ware and tear to get more than $2500
This was listed as an 88 Formula V6 with custom body work. 91200 miles on a car that looks this good and not "asking" for more does make me ask more questions. I don't mind paying but I want to know what I am paying for. The txt communication has not yielded the answers I have been expecting. Either the kid has not owned the car for long and just doesn't know or he doesn't want to tip his hand. Either way I will have to let this one go as I am still waiting on a start date for work. But it would have been a great birthday gift if everyone wants to chip in

Mechanically it sounds like a nice car with useful upgrades but unless the body and interior mods are EXACTLY what I'm looking for, I'd rather pay a premium for a stock Formula and not one with a bunch of mods I'm not interested in. If you like the mods though, more power to you. Consider it a $1500 discount.[This message has been edited by css9450 (edited 01-29-2019).]
