Fiero torque specs list by cvxjet

OK...For a while now I have been planning on creating a list of torque specs for our Fieros that could be posted in the Faqs section. I have the list but would like some feedback to make sure that my list is accurate- Also, I may add to it; This lists the suspension, brake system and clutch torque specs- these are the ones we use a lot in regular maintenance- Obviously, most people take their trans or engine to a shop where the SHOP deals with those specific torque values...



Please look the list over and suggest any changes to me...once it is solid, I will ask Cliff to transfer the list to the Faqs section.

1988 REAR SUSPENSION & CRADLE

Front Cradle bolt/nut = 66 Lb/ft

Rear cradle Bolts = 76 lb/ft

Trailing arm forward = 37 lb/ft

Trailing arm rear bolt = 44 lb/ft + 90*

Lat' arms spindle bolt = 37 lb/ft + 90*

Lat' arm to frame bolt = 41 lb/ft

Strut to Spindle bolts = 140 lb/ft

Strut bracket-tower = 18 lb/ft

Strut top to bracket = 65 lb/ft

1988 FRONT SUSPENSION

Upper control arm shaft to crossmember bolt = 52 lb/ft + 90*

Lower control arm to crossmember nut = 37 lb/ft + 270*

Upper Ball joint to Knuckle nut = 30-40 lb/ft (1/6 turn to align cotter pin>>Not to exceed 55 lb/ft)

Lower Ball joint to Knuckle nut = 26 lb/ft + 180* (Max 1/6 turn to align cotter pin)

Steering gear to crossmember Bolt = 20 lb/ft

Tie Rod at knuckle nut = 15 lb/ft + 180* (Max 1/6 turn to align cotter pin)

Hub/Bearing to Knuckle bolt = 62 lb/ft <<<<Factory book is WRONG!!!! (This is right)>>>>>

Upper shock nut = 8 lb/ft

Lower shock to arm bolt = 20 lb/ft

Stabilizer bar to frame bolts = 20 lb/ft

Stabilizer bar link bolt NUT = 12 lb/ft

1988 BRAKE SYSTEM

Calipers mounting bolts = 74 lb/ft

Caliper bridge bolts = 74 lb/ft

Brake hose to caliper = 19 lb/ft (Book says 33- maybe dry but brake fluid is usually on threads)

Caliper bleeder valve = 116 lb/INCH (9.6 lb/ft)

Master Cylinder to booster nuts = 20 lb/ft

Parking brake lever to caliper nut = 35 lb/ft

Splash shield bolts = 107 lb/INCH (8.9 lb/ft)

Lines to Master Cylinder = 15 lb/ft

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

ENGINE MOUNTS & CLUTCH

Engine mount nuts = 41 lb/ft

Torque strut nuts/bolts = 42 lb/ft

Trans mount to bracket nuts = 41 lb/ft (1984-85) /// 35 lb/ft (1986-88)

Forward trans mount to frame nuts = 35 lb/ft

Rear trans mount to frame nuts = 18 lb/ft

Transmission to engine bolts = 55 lb/ft

Flywheel to crankshaft bolts = 50 lb/ft

Clutch cover to flywheel bolts = 15 lb/ft

Ball joint to arm castellated nut =

Ball joint to arm nuts = 13 lb/ft

Strut to spindle nuts = 140 lb/ft

Strut top nut = 65 lb/ft

Strut top hat nuts = 18 lb/ft

Tie Rod to Knuckle nut = 30-39 lb/ft

Crossmember to frame rail bolt = 52 lb/ft (States in 1985 Pontiac manual; Replace and lubricate)

Crossmember Bracket to frame rail = 52 lb/ft (States in 1985 Pontiac manual; Replace and lubricate)

Crossmember braces to frame and rail, bolt = 20 lb/ft

Shock absorber upper mount bolts = 20 lb/ft

Shock absorber to lower arm nuts = 51 lb/ft

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I have an original GM shop manual if there are any not listed. I can search the book and get answers if they are available.

Good job on this, bookmarking it should save time in the future.

A word of caution on ball joint torque values-I have found them to be on the light side and do not apply to ball joints with nylock nuts. When the specs were written, no one was selling ball joints etc with nylock nuts.

Personally, I would never use ball joints with Nylock nuts- Only castellated nuts with cotter pins.

Cliff, could you move this over to the Faqs section?
