I like good college football, so naturally 15 minutes of Big 10 ball is always lost time.
Ohio State has no business being in this game had it not been a covid year. They looked very good on the long balls last night and have some big bodies that worked fairly well against Clemson. But the coach can't even make a good confetti angel.
The East Coast sports writers and their embedded political structure commands the ability to swindle Notre Dame and Big 10 teams into national view. Alabama has weaknesses on defense this year (but not like Big 10 teams do) and Ohio State might have a few plays go their way. But that's the end of the story. It won't be competitive. Just like 9 out of 10 other times.

Whether or not they deserved to be there is no longer an issue. They proved they were the better team last night. Again, I don’t have a dog in this hunt.

Yes they did and ND didn't because they had no business being there. One of the SEC teams did belong. The SEC teams had always been competitive among the best but they weren't the favorites of the Eastern sports writers which used to rule the national rankings. The BCS was forced on them by conferences that were tired of the political BS and also because it starved them of money. When the SEC expanded and added an extra championship conference game it made them even stronger at the expense of having one team knocked out of the national picture for having a loss they wouldn't have. The Big 10 didn't want to do it because they have a weaker conference, less speed and poorer player development. They only did it because they had to.
But there was still a political component to the original BCS so it got tweaked and tweaked again. Auburn went 13-0, played more top teams but didn't get to go to the NC game because of politics. Oklahoma and USC, I believe it was, played. OK sucked, and USC had cheating Pete Carrol and cheating pro player Reggie Bush. USC had to vacate the win but that didn't help 13-0 Auburn any.
Changing how the clock ran in the game made lesser teams more relevant, which made the game better across the nation. Deep teams couldn't stretch the clock, lean on defenses while the O line rotated in fresher legs by having deeper rosters. Now we have the extra game playoff which is still good. The SEC still wins most of the championships, which is normal.
Well, I’m definitely a SEC fan over other conferences but that doesn’t mean I don’t think there aren’t other good teams, just not as good as the SEC as a whole.
Looking forward to the OS V Bama game, should be a good one regardless of who wins.

This is the first year in a long time that I haven't watched a single regular season NCAA football game but I think (hope) Alabama wins. I don't care much for them, but I dislike TOS even more.
(I did read today that Univ of Tx has announced their new head coach is going to be Alabama's current Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Texas fired Tom Herman, who did pretty good, taking the team to a bowl game each of his 4 years there but his days were numbered even with a 7-3 record. They lost to Oklahoma again this season, which means 3 losses to the Sooners in a row, and at UT, all it historically has taken is lose to them once.
If I were Sarkisian,I wouldn't put down very deep roots in Austin...)

Based on his (current) record, I’m thinking he can get a job almost anywhere he wants.
Thinking he’s a good choice but, only time and wins will tell.

Any coach can 'get' a job. Keeping it is the hard part. Just winning isn't enough at UT. They will eat $15.5 million to get rid of the previous coach plus another $8.5million for his staff that was also let go. So $24 million just to get rid of the old regime, then they begin paying the new coach and his staff.............. They can afford it. They have huge oil royalties coming in from central, south and west Texas. They own 2 million acres in a desolate area of West Texas known as the Permian Basin.

Any Coach with a good enough record maybe.

I see what you're suggesting about needing to have something to stand on. Assistant coaches who get hired as head coaches don't have a record and it happens regularly that they get bumped up. And there are coaches that get hired from powder puff conferences which aren't proven against power conference teams yet. It takes about 3-4 years before the fan base demands they get the axe for not performing. And then they have the buy-out clause which is typically their same salary for not working for the next 3 years. Getting another coaching job is the only thing that will stop them from collecting the buy-out money.
Alabama assistant coaches who have become head coaches haven't yet beaten Nick Saban. Of all coaches I think only Urban Crier Meyer has shown an ability to beat him.
Check this out. Stop telling your kids to be doctors and lawyers.

Why the ** in Mississippi? Is their coach also the dog catcher and the guy that picks up dead animals off the county roads?
A few months ago, as the Mississippi legislature was pondering a change to the state flag, they also took up a motion to make the State's offical flag, fish and haircut one and the same, but it failed to get out of committee.
I traveled along the Miss coast back around 2005, stopping a few times and I was beginning to think the whole state was blood cousin to Joe Dirt. (I was going to Ala pick up a Fiero)
But Arkansas and Lousiana still loves 'em. Mississippi is their Mississippi.

I'm sure the $6 I spent at their little cafe at the east end of the Pascagoula River bridge was much appreciated. The friend from West Texas that traveled with me that weekend left the same tip I did. $1. I suspect there was a true knife and catclaw fight over those 2 bucks after we left. We opted to go on into Louisiana for breakfast on our return trip the next day. Is it true that it's against Mississippi State law to serve any meal without a side order of grits?

I'm sure your business was greatly appreciated. Wouldn't surprise me about the catfight you mentioned. From what I hear, tips from Texan's are pretty rare and that would make those one dollar bills extremely rare.
Reference the grits, wouldn't know for sure, Crackle Barrel seems to serve grits in every location I've ever visited. Not being a fan of Crackle Barrel or of grits, I never touch them.
But, this does remind me of an old joke.
I was once asked how to bury a Texan.
The response was, poke a hole in the body and let all the hot air out and you can bury them in a shoe box.
We all know that isn't true, Texan's are filled with more than hot air. Won't go into what I heard the other contents were.
Said in jest, let's not get all excited about it.
Now, back to that game. I'm picking Bama by 14 points. Although, not confident enough to wager on it.

In my case, I'm sure you're talking about being full of piss and vinegar.
A long time ago in the mid 80's I found myself driving across Mississippi to Arkansas trying to make my way back to the Interstate since my final destination was Tacoma, Washington. I was a bit lost trying to find the bridge over the Mississippi River as the land was completely flat and the trees blocked the view. I stopped at a small gas station for directions where this old dude was sitting in his rocking chair having a RC Cola and Moon Pie. Now I was raised in the south so a southern accent is normal and easily understood but to my surprise I couldn't understand a single word this guy was saying. Luckily he pointed in the direction I needed to go and I found the bridge just a bit further down the road.
I always wondered if everyone in Mississippi speaks that way?
I used to like CB's food but like so many others, they changed to become more PC with their seasonings and fat content. Food there now is bland. (Getting out of their 'general store' after eating without the wife buying some of their high $$ crap is another story altogether.)
(I miss the old style truck stops. Nowadays, most just have some fast food chain built on to it instead of a true truck stop cafe/ restaurant. The nearby Loves truckstop has an Arbys in it, which I don't like to begin with. Last decent one I was in was the Phillips66 out on I-10 at Segovia Tx)

I made an even worse mistake once in the 90's. I moved to Little Rock for a flying job. I was dirt poor and had to work a 2nd job to pay the bills. My 2nd job was at AutoZone #12 where I learned about many different cars and helped a ton of people. Overall a good experience for me but not the family.
Little Rock isn't too bad but from mid 2015 thru late 2017, I saw more feral dogs in that city than I've ever seen combined everywhere else. You can't go to a grocery store or fast food drive thru with seeing a pack of them hangin around. Walmarts elsewhere have grackles and pigeons. in the parking lot ... Arkansas WMs have starvin hound dogs.

Can't honestly answer that question, I haven't run into any issues with the possible exception of some terms that are used I was not familiar with before moving here. Oh, I also had to get used to a slower mode of speech from some but, not much different than the rest of the south.
Edited: Oh yeah, I like Little Rock but my perspective is only from either delivering to a LR location or passing through so, I can't say I know the city well. Edit II: Oh, I'm still picking Bama by 14.

What's that story about hanging a pork chop around some kid's neck so the dogs would play with him?
No insinuation here, just curious if those pups followed you around?
OK, back to the big game. I'm sticking with Bama by 14.

OK, it wasn't even close. But, I can still say, I told you so.
I've determined that I didn't under estimate Bama, I over estimated Ohio State.
I'm not knocking them, they have some very good players but, they don't have the depth of talent and need a better defensive line to compete with a team like Bama.
For someone with no 'dog in the fight' you sure seem to have some sort of focused interest in wherever Al goes. IMO, the least deplorable of the 2 teams won. (Obviously, I'm not a Saban worshipper)

I believe I clearly stated that I was an SEC fan.
Never said I was a Saban fan but with 6 National Championships it’s hard to dis- credit him, his record or, his teams.

A reporter for USA Today printed how he wants to take player's ability to choose where they go to college away from them by instituting pro player style drafts where (mostly) State institutions determine where they play. That's pretty clearly whining.

Parity is always a big issue but usually only AFTER the end of college season.
Unless NCAA etc says the universities have to pay the players similar to how NFL does, then imo, the choice should always be left up to the player/student. Might be some room for which areas (across conference lines? ) different programs can recriuit from, but other than that, I don't see where forcing a student to attend school in any specific area, conference or school is ever going to fly. Big12 (or however few they have now) ..you gonna make a Methodist kid go to Baylor or a Baptist to SMU? not likely.
