Probably all moot. "Progressive" Dems are pushing Pelosi for even more mailbox $$ and she is indicating the current Senate proposed bill will be DOA when it reaches the house.

quote
In a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reviewed by The Daily Beast, the co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Mark Pocan (D-WI), outline a dozen “top priorities” that the group has for the stimulus bill.

At the top of their list is progressives’ benchmark on the issue of direct cash payments to Americans to help them cope with the economic slowdown—one that has broad buy-in from Democrats and Republicans but disagreement on key details.

The progressives are calling for guaranteeing monthly cash payments of up to $2,000 for each adult in the U.S., and up to $1,000 more for families with children, for the next six months—with needier families able to extend for another six months. That proposal is far more generous and expansive than the $1,200 individual tax rebate—and $2,400 family rebate—that Senate Republicans proposed on Thursday for households making less than $150,000.

Even Mo money mo money mo money!!

I sure hope stock prices stay low for the next 6 months so i can buy mo, mo, mo!

Actually...$12.50/hr.

"Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.........."
That extra 50 cents you added on would have cost US Treasury an extra $104,564,047.00

It's a monthly payout, not weekly, but even so, that would only bump the rate for that single month, not the entire 6 months they are talking about.

I assume you are doing you math- 40 hours a week multiplied by 4 weeks a month equals 160 hours a month. So $2000 divided by 160 hours equals $12.50 an hour.

So to a person like me who is paid weekly and likes the 5 pay period months, I see it as can be viewed as being like $10 an hour if people do get the $2000 for the month of April

$2,000/mo x 12mo = $24,000/yr
$24,000/52wks = $461.53/wk
$461.53/40hrs = $11.54/hr

Edit: Over the last week, the more I think about this, the more nervous I get. Not about the virus, but about the government.

I know that extraordinary times require extraordinary measures, but we have mayors and governors becoming little Caesars, congress (yes, both parties) involved in insider trading and what seems a lot like some sinister social experiment. How many of these "temporary" controls will become permanent?

I have been wondering what is going on outside our view, while we are being distracted.

yep. Did it exactly that way. Tho it could also be looked at like a salaried manager that gets paid once per month, or like parts of the military used to.
Doesn't matter tho. It's still FREE MONEY!

Whoo hoo...whoo woo. whoo hoo hoo!

Many people do not need the extra cash, but some industries do. Here is why it is not happening:

https://www.scientificameri...-in-coronavirus-aid/

quote

Democrats on both sides of Capitol Hill are pushing to add climate change provisions to the third aid package for people and industries affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

https://www.washingtontimes...ning-powers-solar-t/

quote

Congressional Democrats are demanding an “ideological wish list” including new collective bargaining powers for unions as they hold up a nearly $2 trillion economic package of coronavirus relief, Republicans said Monday.

Again, the left is obstructing progress, hitting America in her time of need. This is partisan and divisive. Lets get together and fix this crisis and worry about the spotted owls later.

Yes, I heard that. It was rumored to pass with a good bipartisan effort, then Pelosi comes back from San Francisco and put a stop to it. Claiming she will write her own bill, .

The Dumbs think they are holding the Repubs hostage when in fact they are holding America hostage.

The left is more interested in buying votes than what’s good for the economy, the taxpayers (who are ultimately paying the bill) or the nation as a whole. This is simply another attempt to buy votes to gain power.

Based on what I'm reading, Pelosi's proposed bill is something like 1400 pages long and contains a lot of special interest riders that have nothing to do with this Coronavirus Stimulus Package. This pisses me off.

That is the absolute truth, right there.

I just wish America would pay attention, instead of listening to grade school gossip. "You know what I heard? Ashley said Donald is a big stupid head."

From the archives, credit to Formula88 :

Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed.
Now we are trusting the economy of our country and our banking system to the same nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling whiskey.

True or not I don't know. Sounds about right.

Oh, I dont know. I heard that Pelosi was going to propose $1500 payments. I just can't see the Democrats losing or turning down an opportunity to hand out government money. Who would have thought just a few months ago that Trump could make the Dems seem stingy?

So they mail out checks that we have to leave the house to deposit. Yeah that wont end badly.
Where is this money coming from did they say? Is it the 2024 impeachment fund?

If the government has this kind of money laying around why the **** am I being taxed so much.
Why the **** was I being fined for not having health insurance?
Why the ****, just why the ****....

Besides food and other house supplies I will be putting any money sent in the bank.

And according to some things I have seen, she (Pelosi) and Shumer have all kinds of other things in their proposals that have nothing to do with this emergency at all. I believe I saw that her proposal was 1400 pages long. Probably like Obama Care, we have to pass to find out just what is in it. And just how did you get 1400 pages of anything in less than a week? It had to have been made up by some outside group like Obama Care was and then gifted to the Democrats to use. Or maybe they had a cadre of people cutting and pasting from all of their other wish lists all weekend to make up this 1400 page proposal.

Just like Rham Emanuel said: Never let a crisis go to waste.

First: Supposedly they will use the financial information you used last year for your refund deposits. At least for those that used that option. And at least in my area, my credit union has the lobby closed, but I can drive up and deposit the check.

Secondly: The money will come from loans or they will just print it. If they print it, then it will decrease the value of any other money you might have.

To answer the ****" because they could.

Third: Do what you want with it. You will be paying for it one way or another. But, if the intent is to stimulate the economy while also bailing people out, then spend it to make the money go into circulation. Thereby helping the economy. At least that is the thought. We will sure find out quickly is huge government stimulus does work like liberal economists have been proclaiming since before FDR. If it doesn't work then maybe the Keynesian economics will be shuffled off to the dustbin of history. Oh heck what am I thinking. Socialism/Marxism/Communism still has a following after all of the failed attempts to make it work. (they just haven't done it right, and we will)

Some and I think most of the Speaker Pelosi has in the House bill:

Under the heading of “Union Giveaways”:

• Nullifies the White House executive orders on federal collective bargaining and codifies taxpayer-funded union official time.

• Requires a labor union representative on every airline’s board of directors.

• Multiemployer pension bailout lacking needed reforms.

• Permanently raises the minimum wage to $15 for any business that receives federal aid for COVID-19.

• Cancels all debt owed by the U.S. Postal Service to the Treasury.

Under the heading “Green New Deal priorities”:

• Requires all airlines that receive assistance to offset carbon emissions for domestic flights by 2025.

• Includes a $1 billion “cash for clunkers” airplane program where the Transportation Department buys fuel-inefficient planes from airlines in exchange for agreeing to buy new ones.

• Includes expansive new tax-credit for solar and wind energy.

Under “Student Loan Forgiveness”:

• $10,000 blanket loan forgiveness.

Under “Federalizing Elections”:

• Mandates how states must run elections, including the nationalization of ballot harvesting, requiring early voting, same day registration, and no-excuse vote by mail.

• Puts states at risk of costly litigation if they are unable to implement these stringent mandates ahead of the 2020 election.

Under “Immigration Provisions”:

• Requires the Homeland Security Department to automatically extend visas and work authorizations expiring within the next year, including those with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status, for an amount of time equal to their prior visa, authorization or status.

• Limits Customs and Border Patrol’s ability to shutdown processing centers if there is a health crisis on the border and requires CBP to assure the timely adjudication of asylums applications.

• Would allow certain funding to go to sanctuary cities.

Under “Overreaching Mandates on Businesses”:

• Permanent changes to who can serve on corporate boards of directors for companies that receive assistance for payroll and operating costs.

• Mandatory disclosure on supply chain management.

• Requires board diversity disclosure for all publicly traded companies.

• Ban on all federal rulemaking including non-COVID 19 proposals (extends 30 days after emergency) “in an attempt to delay the current administration from promulgating actions House Democrats disagree with.”

Under “New Permanent Mandates”:

• Virtually rewrites the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program policy with no reference to COVID-19 and permanently disallows rulemaking pertaining to work requirements and eligibility.

• Permanent expansion of Obamacare entitlement, “putting the American taxpayer on the hook for endless and unchecked health insurance spending and would remove all incentives for insurers to reduce the cost of health insurance.”

Mr. Scalise said the Democrats’ bill also excludes bipartisan health-care provision in the Senate bill, including a proposal to expand telehealth access for home dialysis patients, hospice and home health patients; and a measure to prevent a payment reduction for durable medical equipment to help patients’ better transition from the hospital to home.

https://www.washingtontimes...us-package-socialis/

Taking their cue from the words of President Obama's former Chief of Staff:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb-YuhFWCr4

Both sides need to cut this crap out. If they're gonna do a relief bill, make it short, make it sweet. We're talking 10 pages tops. Not this ~1500 page wish list of ways you want to fundamentally destroy transform this nation. I won't suggest that I'm in full agreement with the Republican Senate Bill but, the crap above is total I'm becoming more of a DINO every day.

The Leftist riders attached to the bill aren't really about what they want.

They're about what they don't want.

They don't want any relief from an economic collapse.

They actually are cheering for another depression.

WHY?

Spend a little bit of time going through the Leftist websites and blogs (if you can endure it). The current "idea", other than "Orange Man Bad" is that "the Great Depression gave them "the most popular progressive President of all time, FDR", (their words), and "he was elected as a direct result of the Great Depression", (also their words).

The Leftist Dems WANT another Great Depression because they really believe that it will usher them back to power.

The riders that they put into the latest bill are known as "Poison Pills", intended to kill it, and it's one of the oldest legislative stunts.

B.C. dentist who attended Vancouver conference dies of suspected COVID-19 complications

"The nearly 15,000 people who attended that conference were told on March 16 to self-isolate by the provincial health officer, which confirmed that several cases of COVID-19 had been traced to the event, one of the largest of its kind in North America."

We don't have a shortage, we have a problem with how the supply is distributed within the customer base.

And they seldom clean up their messes anyway.....

All I'm gonna say is, my bet is, this un-earned income will be taxed accordingly next tax season.
If, I get a check, it'll go into my savings so it'll still be there when they want it back.
I also realize that not everyone can do that but, be prepared to repay Uncle Sugar. Yeah, I know, they got it from us but, I'm think'n they are gonna want it back. I hope I'm wrong. (I think)

Yes, I realize a lot of folks work for these cruise lines. We're all responsible for the decisions we make. Those people will be eligible for Unemployment Insurance. Call me a hardass, it is, what it is.
I am in favor of "loaning" money to US Airlines, they play an important role in this nation's past, present and future.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder if this is all a choreographed setup for UBI?

I have never been on a cruise, and just as with Starbuck's and golf courses, I will continue to practice extreme social distancing. All three hold all of the promise and excitement of the current global pandemic.

Now I may be way off base, but I was under the impression that vast majority of cruise line employees are not American citizens.

I don't think it was a setup, but I know the left if certainly not letting this "crisis go to waste".
