How about Australia...They passed a new law on banning cell phones used in cars. They have HD camera that take clear thru the windshield pics of the driver and their lap. If your holding or touching a cellphone, you get a ticket in the mail.

If you think im full of it, here it is. https://www.kdrv.com/conten...ralia-565661521.html

I'd say that 80% or better of the people who pass me are on the phone. Not "talking" nessesarily, but scrolling facebook, playing games, watching movies, facetime etc. I see a lot of watching movies. The other day a guy passed me in Alabama playing Texas Holdem. 70 MPH, playing cards. I know because he was pacing the cars in front of him that were also playing on their phones, and whenever I would pass the lead car, it would take off and the rest of the line would once again pass me... Just 6 cars playing on their phones.

Of the people that are doing things on their phones while driving down the road 100% of them cannot drive and play on the phone. It's sheer luck that they don't wreck and kill/hurt someone. Thankfully most of the newer cars have technology that "helps" them with beeps etc.

And the Police don't do anything at all about it. They are playing with their phones sitting in the medians.

I'm genuinely surprised that there aren't more people killed, and I cannot wait for self driving anything.

Lol. Ya, there are far more auto deaths from people using their phone for whatever than there are for auto pilot Teslas. I find mine amazing. Ive followed people with it on (also adaptive cruise) and see them all weaving side to side inside their lane. The Tesla seems to keep itself centered in the lane very well. I hear that they might have a problem where lane marker lines are absent or worn, but not me personally. Columbus has a downtown bus service that uses completely self driving busses along a few routes. They have a safety officer on board mostly to see that people arent robbed or raped. From what Ive seen in the year plus theyve been operating, not one at fault accident. They are expanding it now to go between downtown and some outlying neighborhoods.

Well if all of the phone vendors locked the phones when they are moving more than 15 miles an hour and only displays GPS applications.
That's the only thing I use the phone for in the car and it makes me accept responsibility if I use it while I am moving.

Whether or not I think you're full of "it", has absolutely nothing to do with this story.

The penalty for 'distracted attention' driving isn't nearly severe enough.
$500 and 6 months suspension for 1st offense sounds about right to me.
2nd offense it should double and if they are stupid and self-serving enough to get a 3rd citation, a year in jail and 24 months lic suspension should show them the error of their ways.

Why you find that AMAZING??
The # of tesla's out there, and # of drivers using the auto pilot is tiny.
but you just had to put tesla into your thread.
Sad part is this crap happened before cell phones, and will even if they make all phones disabled if either camera "see's" a steering wheel or pedal box of a vehicle.
People have drove like crap long before the scape goat, cell phone, and will still be when they are not able to be in use.

ok, BOOMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll bet road head has caused more wrecks than cell phones.
Another useless fact. brought to you by animaniacs, Yacko, Whacko, and Dot

While, I would love to think that is true (haven't personally experienced any crashes due to that reason), you're going to have to prove that one to win your bet.
I wonder what category that would fall under in the DOT data?

Edited: Distracted Driving would include cell phone distractions I'm thinking.

Who, would tell the emt or cps, I wrecked, because she was well....
The cell phone thing, is an easy fix. build into the phone that if the gps sees over 5mph, the cameras , look for a steering wheel or vehicle pedal box. if it thinks it see's either, it locks down, shuts down.
never happen as there is money to be made in tickets and fines and insurance surcharges.
It isn't about safer roads and never will be.

I suggest more severe than that. Such as DWI laws, including distraction assault (intoxication assault) and distraction manslaughter. Also include the higher dollar ?SR 22? (here in Texas) applications to reinstate along with higher insurance rates.

I'm sorry, but if they are going to put a 7-8-12-24 inch screen in a dash to look at a map. they got nothing to say about a cell phone screen.

The link IS the whole story, so it has EVERYTHING AND THE REASON for the post. See, no matter what it is, some of you just have to be azzes about any kind of post that you dont post yourself. Are you sure your not a liberal, since you dont believe anything from anyone else unless you want to ?

Your fumbling around with any device in your hands. Having to manipulate anything while your driving is a distraction. Besides, dash displays in everything ive seen tell you not to operate it while driving, even though you can see out the windshield while looking at your dash. I can also see my gauges and speedo while im driving. They have these things now so you can talk on your phone, or get GPS directions, by listening and not having to touch anything. My GPS even reads my emails and texts to me if I want. Amazing huh.
