As grocery getters go, I think it would work for most folks and the price is acceptable (I guess) if that’s the type of light duty transport one wants. But, it is a far cry from what I call a truck. I’m sure it would work for most “truck” users. Not much in the style department IMHO but, that’s just me.

The glass demo was a great example of what happens when you take tech and implement it. The balls didn’t shatter the glass when it was allowed to flex, it in the frame was a different story. Also, the guy tossed it pretty hard, and there’s that whole “spark plug” phenomena, you ever see that?

I know that Telsa designs functionality to its design. The best part of the presentation (which some of it went poorly .... smashed glass and powerpoint delays), but was Elon's reasoning about the exoskeleton and design and how poorly designed and utilized current pick-up trucks are. That is the reason I really like the truck. Regardless what you think about the design, there is some real engineering behind it.

I agree that to me it is ugly. But then, I think all pickups are ugly. They have shown it can tow an airliner. The reveal showed it towing an F 150 with ease as the Fords tires were smoking pulling the opposite way. 500 miles per charge is pretty damn good...especially since you never buy any gas ever. If you get free supercharger access with it, and/or have solar power at home...you drive for free forever. My Model X cost me less than $25-$30 to charge on my home charger for a month. Thats 1/3 to 1/4 or less than gas would cost for same mileage. I wondered at first where the bed was, but see that the entire rear plus the rear bed cover form a built in ramp. The glass demo was a bust for sure. It appears to also have 2 rear facing seats in the front of the bed. Its not a large haul truck obviously and dont know if the cover is removable for tall cargo. I dont see that as a big deal for private owners that just want pickups. I know people, and see lots of pickups on the street that never carry anything in the beds so having it is more or less a joke. If the cover is not removable, i dont see it being practical for businesses like contractors. Proposed price is good as its at the lower end of what other pickups are selling for. I had a customer that wanted to do a few little custom things to his brand new Chevy pickup...sticker on the window was over $70k.

While that is an impressive number, many vehicles can tow huge weights as long as they get traction. The airliner Roger mentions is obviously on wheels and the brakes are not applied. Once it gets rolling, it's all gravy until, that tow vehicle needs to stop quickly. What I was talking about was the load it can carry. I actually like the idea of the exoskeleton. It ain't pretty but very functional. I am really not knocking it, it's just not for me.

Maryjane mentioned the towing capability. Others have mentioned the range/distance it can travel before needing a recharge. 500 miles IIRC. I'm interested to know the range if, it was towing a max load. The towed weight and the aerodynamics of that load will have an effect on the "power" drain. I think the Cybertruck is an interesting concept. One won't be sitting in my garage but, it is intriguing.
I can’t find a single thing wrong with it. El Camino’s & Ranchero’s didn’t appeal to everybody back in the day, and they weren’t even attempting to create a new paradigm. Hell, even the pricepoint doesn't seem to be out of line.

Doing a little more research, that 39,900 price is for the cheapest model (not surprisingly) and it won’t get you nearly the mileage, towing capacity or 4WD. Step up to the $60K version if you want all that. But this I will say, Elon Musk is as good as Barnum and Bailey at getting the public’s attention.
They almost was going to shoot the truck with a 9mm. They did hit it with a sledge hammer though.

The drag coefficient is important for fuel conservation. Wind resistance increases at the square of the increase in velocity. Once a vehicle is up to highway speeds, a significant percentage of power is used just to overcome aerodynamic drag.

Is this as critical for an electric vehicle? Sure, total distance traveled between re-charging might be affected, but obviously emission levels aren't a concern.

Total distance, or range is very important to an electric vehicle. That is exactly what held them back for many years.
I'm not saying that the truck is terrible, aerodynamically; just that it is not ideal. I would guess that it was designed more to attract attention and promote discussion, which it has done. I have also read that the production model might look significantly different.

Oh sure, I completely agree... but I'm just wondering in a real world application, how much actual difference in miles traveled would there be between an electric truck shaped like a Ferrari, and one shaped like an old '78 Dodge Power Wagon? Instead of 250 miles on a charge... would it be 240 miles... 200 miles.... 100 miles? I suspect that around town there'd be no discernible difference at all.

Wait, so that's what it's really going to look like? I mean, I thought that was like a pre-production developmental prototype. Something to show the world that there is progress. If that's what it actually will look like, the only people I can think of that would buy one are the wanna be edgy preppy types. I wouldn't even want to be seen catching a ride in that monstrosity.

Mt 85 Jeep CJ7 has the shape of a bread box. Gas mileage to prove it. Life is about balance. I do think my CJ7 holds beauty but I have a wandering eye. It slips over that triangle.
I don't give a whit about appearances or 'styling' when it comes to pickup trucks but they do have to do the job. Even my 10 yr old generic fleet version 1500 doesn't squat down like that when I drive my little fourtrax up in the bed or even when i load a 1000 lb roll of hay in it.
Taken straight from the video..this won't work in my world, no matter what the technical advances & pleasantries provide..look where the headlight beam is pointed... It's illegal in my state to coon hunt from the highway.
