Yippee we are all gonna die.....again.

Deep fried. Fricaseed. Par-BOILED.

(Lessee. By the Internets track record, we have been extincted and deaded about 7,631, 079, 842 times since 1995.Give or take a time or 2. DAMN, I wish I knew how to make money off of all these failed predictions. Anybody want to buy a nice dry fall-out shelter in the Florida Everglades ?)

There's an old rocket silo in the Florida Everglades. It's made by DynaJet... they were designing rockets for NASA... there's a whole rocket literally submerged in a silo... but I think they just filled it in with concrete (it was flooded anyway).

I believe that was AeroJet-Dade.
Not concreted in, just covered with concrete bridge supports.
I have been in an Atlas F silo, Site 10 Nolan Texas. Circa 1966..maybe '65. It hadn't been abandoned more than a couple 3 years at that time.
My aunt and uncle lived wirthin sight of this silo, (less than 1/2 mile away) and she told how some days and nights, the sirens would go off, and they could watch the missle raise up on the elevator from the silo. The is the Atlas F site when it was operational, and this is what they would have seen.

When I visited it with my cousins, my brother and 2 sisters (after abandonment) all that was there was a big concrete pad, the 2 closed silo doors, and the little 1/2 trapezoid looking concrete structure you see just behind and to the right of the cryogenic tank. On the back side of that, was a heavy but open door and that is where we entered and went over, then down into the silo itself. There were several operation rooms, lots of steel electronic boxes (empty) and hundreds of feet of armored electric cable everywhere. We could stand next to a wall, and shift our weight in unison and you could feel the room shake...it was on springs.

I have also been in an abandoned Nike Hercules site in Terrel Texas which was one of the 50s-60s ABM and was there to protect DFW ..most major US cities had a Nike site near them.

There was a period in my younger adult life that I really, really wanted to buy an abandoned missile silo! Hahah... as I've gotten older, it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

But I've always been fascinated by these. There's so many of them around the country, and I've never had the opportunity to see one. I know there's a museum where one has been really-well maintained. I think it's in Nevada... I'm definitely going to plan to see it...
