Trains not planes? The Green New Deal's rail controversy explained
Commentary: The Democrats' recently unveiled Green New Deal aims to reduce the US's carbon footprint... by doing away with airplanes?

Much of the discussion around the Green New Deal's high-speed rail proposals revolves around one line: "...build out high-speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary." If you think this is a ridiculous concept, you're not alone. Countless media outlets across the political spectrum found much amusement with that line.

Except... the Green New Deal doesn't actually say that... The above quote is from an overview FAQ sent out by Ocasio-Cortez's office, not the proposal itself. This FAQ since been taken down.

Here's the actual text of the proposal: "...overhauling transportation systems in the United States to remove pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector as much as is technologically feasible, including through investment in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure and manufacturing; clean, affordable and accessible public transit; and high-speed rail."

"Green New Deal", non-binding Congressional resolution.

"remove pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector as much as is technologically feasible"

I would like to know how someone in like Grafton NH is going to get around if they take all the fossil fuel away so you can not drive a car unless it is electric Grafton is only about 500 people i don't think they will have high speed rail and i bet most can not afford a new electric car and just think of all of those who have used cars that will not be able to get around due to they cant afford a new car this is just going to hurt those who are lowest of income the worst

And those who can't afford it will become dependent upon the government to provide their needs. Socialism.

This Californian train was a fraud from day one. That is one reason it is now changed again. It NEVER had a plan to take property from owners in the Bay area or the LA area. That land is SOOOOO EXPENSIVE that they never even tried to steel it through eminent domain like they did to the VASTLY outnumbered Central Californians. Steeling the land out from under them was easy. The Major Cities Lawyered up and prevented the train from even driving a single stake in the ground.
AND the CHEAPEST leg of the route was many times over budget.
Another reason it stopped at Bakersfield is because they never had a plan to cross over the mountain range just South of Bakersfield. This mountain range separates LA from the rest of California. They were going to get off the train at the bottom of the mountain range and board a bus that was going to drive them over the hill. UNBELIEVABLE but true.

SCAM, and they still have no idea how to pay for the largely incomplete section. It is less than 10% complete and never even had a plan to buy the trains to set on the track. Yep, that's right, they only had plans to build tracks, NO TRAIN. That was supposed to come later.
The ticket price is currently expected to top $150 per person. AND the train is currently climbing deeper in the red, causing the estimate to climb higher.
