When Rep. Maria Syms boldly stated that the #Redfored movement organizers were socialists, she was jeered. When the leader of #Redfored, Noah Karvelis, spoke at the Socialism 2018 event in Chicago this month he was cheered.

Realistically the democratic party is socialist, but they wont say it out loud in public. They are are proud as peacocks about their socialist policies, bills they write and laws they get past, ... but the horrible "label " of socialist is just to much to take. Besides, the dems are supposed to be the name callers, not the bad guys who are labeled.
The United States is essentially a socialist nation, and has been for well over a century. It's just that political Socialist want to move the needle to a more Socialist to Communist spectrum of government.
Public Schools, for example, is one of the most communist systems we have in America. When indoctrination is a higher goal than education for the youth, the no choice and assigned schools, to the plundering of the State's resources.
In the Soviet Union, it was common for where ever you lived, you were assigned to a grocery store. That is the single and only grocery store you can go to. If you asked any older Russian or Eastern European that experienced what it was like to go shopping for basic food at your "assigned" grocery store, they would tell you that it was horrendous and notoriously poorly ran and poor service. It was common to have bread lines.
In America, the Public School system is the same thing. Your children are assigned to a school. You have no choice, unless you go the private route. That is one of the reasons why we have a poor public education system in America.
I can go on and on, but the posting would be way to lengthy. Instead, I have boiled down probably what I think drives socialism and socialist people and why it is so popular worldwide and widely adopted by so many people and governments.
I'm just generalizing here, based on my experience based on dealing with socialist activist in the political space, to dealing with those who are hard core Democrats either personally or professionally in all sorts of capacities.
There is one characteristic they all posses. And that is, they are essentially lazy people. They want a world that removes as much challenges and stressors as possible and they want to do as little as possible and maximize as much leisure time as they can. They want the fat happy life and with little effort or contribute as little as possible work to achieve it. And taking other people's money and spending it is a very easy way to live.
You will notice that most all welfare recipients, to the lazy guy you work with at your work, to public school teachers and union stewards, to those advocating slavery reparations and ambulance chasing trial attorneys, social justice advocates and community organizers and criminals in the prison system to those in tenured job for life academia. They are all essentially in favor for, support and vote for Democrats and socialism. They want to do as little as possible, but gain from the system as much out of it. Basically an input to output equation that favors little input with the greatest output, which includes stealing and taking from others if need be. In contrast, you will notice that the workaholics, weekend work warriors, those that selflessly volunteer for charitable causes, members of the military, entrepreneurs and business owners, boost strappers, those is very heavy manual labor or dangerous occupations, to those that love what they do, regardless of pay. Intelligent and high skilled and highly education professions (non academia) and many of the other producers of society tend to default to freedom and want a less government and more accountability, choices and less dependency on others or the State. It is a totally different mindset.
Basically it is like Jamestown Colony. Where all these people get together to build a new future in the new world. A great number of the settlers who wanted the easy life, live off the rations and the backs of others and didn't want to really contribute much to the colony. It basically didn't go well. Many starved and died off. The mantra, "you either work or starve", was true. But Jamestown eventually flourished, as the go getters and the hard workers made it through and prospered a striving colony. It was those people and not the socialism experience that saved Jamestown. If it weren't for them, everyone would be dead. That is why every single hippie commune experiment and communist societies always fail to prosper. The division of labor cannot be parceled out to people who are essentially lazy.
But is always surprised me that even in the face of all these different socialism experiments, be it Soviet Union and now (Democrat Party Darling) Venezuela or Europe's job for life and early retirement model and heavy socialist systems and even the United States very socialist system, all isn't working well. The socialist still go on. Next is Universal Income to Universal Health Care. More and more and more is needed. That is what they think will work. We can do all these these platforms and reforms to the socalist system, but it won't be enough. You can pay a lazy person $25K a year or $300K a year., the pay makes no difference. It will not motivate them to work harder, it will not stop their bitchin, it will not stop their complaining, it will always be 'not enough" for them. Because the root of it all, is that we are dealing with essentially lazy people who will never be happy. That is socialist and Democrats. That is why you have rich Hollywood celebrities who think they know best, but are essentially just lazy people.
