Someone at work wrote a riddle down for the next day's morning crew to ponder, and he shared it with me as though to claim his pride and clever wit. I did solve it quickly, to his dismay, but the idea dawned on me to start a thread of riddles, all are invited to post their own.
Picture/meme/text riddles are all welcome, but I would like to see that no answers/resolutions are posted. A thread to challenge its' viewers in both enjoyment and torment! (You are on a fiero forum, you must be well aware of how tormenting it is when you can't figure something out!! Just try to find a completed thread in the tech section! )
My first contribution, is the one I was offered today;
"What has 4 letters, sometimes has 9 letters, and never has 5 letters."
Three people check into a hotel room. The clerk says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10.
Later the clerk realizes the bill should only be $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 to return to the guests. On the way to the room, the bellhop realizes that he cannot divide the money equally. As the guests didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 and keep $2 as a tip for himself.
Each guest got $1 back, so now each guest only paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop has $2. And $27 + $2 = $29 so, if the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?

What I love about riddles, is that most of the time, the answer lies right in front of you! Thank you for your clever contribution, Willie. I love a math riddle!
And yes, no fun in posting answers. Anyone getting into a fit over the answer can Google it. I myself prefer the challenge! It keeps us sharp!
It would if there were a question mark at the end. With a period at the end, it is technically a statement. I hate to admit it, but it had me stumped. It was a long day.....
