I just "inherited" Kim's one dog....Jack Russel/ Pug cross, with mostly Pug genes by the look of him. Unknown history. She found him free online last summer and just cant handle him, plus he has bonded and gravitated to me to the point he basically ignores her.
Here is the problem...Door Barking. Every time somebody knocks on my door, or one of the neighbors, he goes wild barking.
Normally, I wouldnt mind. I think a dog SHOULD be pulling guard duty for the home....BUT, in a building with thin walls and 1950's construction methods, NOTHING is sound-proof (I can hear the girl next door fart) so I need to de-train the guard out of him.
Never owned a Pug, but from what I understand reading online, they were originallybred for guard duty, so it might be quite the challenge to break the behavior.
We had a dog with a bark problem and the collar did work.
In fact, she was smart enough to realize when the collar was on she shouldn't bark but off it was OK. When I'd go on an errand I would take the collar off because of the bed bound wife.
Just tape up the dog's tags because the jingling can set the collar off.

Exactly my experience. Black lab was taught by ex to bark at door. 1 hour with the bark collar put an end to it.
My wife adopted a small dog once that had a similar issue. The previous owners had had it's vocal cords cut so that the bark was less in volume but, it still tried. Sounded more like a cough.
Was a pretty piss poor way IMHO to address the problem. My wife dealt with it by always picking her up when she tried to bark. Of course, the dog eventually figured out how to get attention from the wife. Goes to the question, who's training who............

Jingling was the downfall of Black Hand Kelly........he too, was warned. No, no spurs, in fact, no jingling of any kind!

15 minute sessions in the bathroom. We had Chihuahuas. One had no clue of silence when people came over. I began with 15 minute time outs. After several of those, a three year prior to my arrival habit was broken.
Love. If you do not show care and love, they will not care or love themselves, or you.
