What else did you bring to the table besides making an introduction? Are you wanting a finder's fee? Was there a verbal agreement?

A very long time ago, I paid $1,000 to fly a 337 in a "movie" over Lake Huron. Once they had the cash, nobody answered the phone and the "movie" never did get made apart from a few 1/2-azzed beach scenes.
Lesson learned. If you have to pay up front to get a job, then its not a job, its a scam. They probably dont have the cash to take on the project in the 1st place, and are just using staff as a source of income to finance the project.
