Judy Collins had a hit with this Ian Tyson song in 1969 but Suzy Bogguss does it best. It almost brings me to tears:
I always loved the New Riders' version of this Rolling Stones song. That is Jerry Garcia on the pedal steel:
Bessie Smith made this Wesley Wilson song popular, but I like Billie Holiday's version best:

Two hypnotizing covers....
Morgan James covers Ike & Tina:
Samantha Fish covers Screamin' Jay Hawkins:
Both of these two extremely talented ladies are also very easy on the eyes.

I have to admit, really didn't like the version of Wicked Game. Wasn't that good singing and really not pleasant. Just me though. For each their own, so I get it.

Its loose.. (poor vid and semi poor audio) but I dug these guys having fun doing this Aldean song. I'd like to hear her belt something out. Its a song I've always really liked.
Start from 1 minute
The original live, you can hear the words better:

Toto's Rain in Africa. Acapella.
Turn it up so you can hear the rain and be surprised with the thunder.

Cover the bottom half of that picture and it reminds me a lot of Dr. Lector from Silence of the Lambs.

Here we have "Cars" by Gary Numan. The original sounds kinda dorky. But the cover (by Fear Factory, featuring Gary Numan) sounds badass.

I love this band. Excellent musicians, and they're crazy as hell.
Seriously, I could do this all day.
A friend of mine actually devoted a three hour radio show to "bands playing other people's music".

For this one, even the cover is old. But here we go... first the original (by Harry Chapin). And here's the cover (by Ugly Kid Joe).

Hah! Excellent! I knew that's what it was going to be, before it even loaded the video.
Seemed a lot "harder edged" when I heard it years ago, though.
Do covers count, even if they're redone by the front man of the original band?
Lots of "Animals" covers on this album (Sun Secrets.) As well as "Ring Of Fire" - which doesn't do a lot for me.

The Grateful Dead covers Merle Haggard:
and Hank Williams:
To me, the Grateful Dead will always be a country band. Here they cover an old Irish folksong that is a staple for mandolin players:
I will always love songs like Ripple and Friend of the Devil.

The second cover of "You Win Again" was by Jerry Lee Lewis in 1957.
The first cover was by Tommy Edwards in 1952. (Tommy Edwards had a hit on "It's All In The Game" in 1951).
The song has been covered 109 times according to
Second Hand Songs .

When Dolly Parton recorded “I Will Always Love You” back in 1974, I thought it was nice. Eighteen years later, I was driving down the road and heard it on the radio and was blown away. I wondered why I had never really listened to it before, then realized it wasn't Dolly Parton. Stunning!
