I spoke yesterday evening with one of our members who participates in civil war battle reenactments and other civil war related historical demonstrations. He informed me that the yearly event held in Middletown Va. was evacuated when an individual ran into a Confederate tent and dropped a pipe bomb! Regardless of anyone's feeling about the removal of statues, what kind of sick SOB would do this kind of thing. It took a while for the 'regular news outlets' to pick up the story but it appears that threats have been made by those opposed to the reenactment of the history of the civil war on numerous occasions. If there was ever a case of (attempted) domestic terrorism this has got to qualify.

Not doubting your word but, do you have a link for any of this?

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but …
after a shooting, the problem is the gun....
Open your frigg'n minds, think about all the other tools that can be made into WMDs.

I sincerely hope that life is never discovered on another planet because, sure as hell Progressives and Socialists will want to send them money.

A Google search brought up several articles from some news outlets local to that region, but very few details. Apparently, there had been a threat to the event a few days earlier.

One thing that always puzzles me about things like this is that if they want to be revolutionaries or make some kind of statement, they are complete failures when they run and hide. If one has a cause, he should have the courage to stand up and say, "I did it, and this is why". Without that, he is an abject failure, a chickenshirt.

True that. But......
If one is outnumbered, committed to a cause, and wants to 'live to fight another day', dumping an explosive into a confined space and running away isn't a bad strategy.
Think WWII French Resistance.....

C'mon, you watched Hogan's Heros!

That strategy is only effective against combatants. How can one wage a war of terror, if no one knows who to be terrified of?

The strategy to destroy confidence in our current government/system has always been the goal. Divide and conquer, split the united and let them tear themselves apart. It'll work if all concerned don't agree there's a threat.

Yep, much like the KKK, the church bombers of the 60s and 70s, the Unibomber and ISIS.

Although it doesn't make them any less despicable, at least we knew who and why.
With this pipe bomber, as with the guy in Vegas, we just don't know. Could it be purely random violence by "rebels without a clue"?
Could we be seeing a new, more dangerous trend born of an increasingly frustrated population? Is there a growing segment that is so angry that they are motivated to violence without even knowing why?

I understand that angry people will sometimes choose a cause simply as a means to express their anger, but are some just going straight from A to Z, without bothering to rationalize it?

What I dont get, and dont think I will ever understand, is why do these nutbars go after people who have done nothing to them ?

schools, concerts, churches/temples/mosques...big groups of defenseless humans. When is the last time anybody saw one of these cowards curl a fist and try to take on a man ?

I just dont understand what could possibly motivate that kind of action.

guns and blow-em-ups are SUPPOSED to be fun to use when nobody is around to get hurt. Especially the boom-booms.Not like most of us have never-ever done it,

Now excuse me, I gotta go throw a firecracker off the balcony.....no, probably not gonna happen. Think 'ill just go open a can of tuna for the cats instaed.

<edit>

now, hold my beer and watch this.

I suspect that they 'think' they know why, and may actually have what they consider to be a substantial or bona fide grievance. Whether that grievance is connected directly to any given target or event is irrelevant to those who carry out the violence.
The target is mostly unimportant to those who carry out the violence..the attention it draws is.
ISIS for instance doesn't care if it's a soccer stadium crowd or a subway platform..their only interest is violence for the sake of violence against anyone 'not like them'.
This has played out thousands of times across the centuries on every continent, under every guise imaginable.
It is not at all, something new.

What bothers me is the idea that they just want to hurt people and don't care who or why. Remember the homeless woman in Vegas a couple of years ago who ran her car into a crowd? It was reported that she did it just because she was frustrated.

Normal people are driven by a need for attention or the desire to right a wrong. These people are lashing out like cornered animals. They are not normal.

I understand that normal people do not commit mass murder, but we can at least define the hate that motivates most who do.

I think Antifa might fall into this category of "rebels without a clue". I suspect that most of them do not know the first thing about fascism or communism and don't really care, they are just drawn in by the violence. They just want to lash out and the group provides them with a target and a sense of legitimacy.
