We are back at home, still on generator power. Cell and internet connections are very iffy all thru this region.
Water did not get much higher than what is seen in the last picture that was posted and did not get in the house.
Was very happy to read your post. You and the Mrs. are safe, the home survived, it could have been much worse.
My offer still stands, if there is anything I can do to assist, let me know. Have already donated to the Red Cross fund for flood relief but, it still feels inadequate.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun.... Open your frigg'n minds, think about all the other tools that can be made into WMDs.
I sincerely hope that life is never discovered on another planet because, sure as hell Progressives and Socialists will want to send them money.
Glad to learn you are home safe. Very sorry about your neighbor, headlines are one thing, but when it hits that close to home, it seems to have a deeper impact.
Hope all your stock turns up...kind of gives new meaning to "till the cows come home" . Do they still use branding out there, or is everything eartags now...or maybe mug shots? ()
Sorry to hear about the equipment, but I bet you will be able to salvage at least some of it. Course it means a tear down and rebuild,(at least a thorough cleaning and generous grease & oiling!)...but you probably have wanted to do that to some of it before, just never had the time! (More than likely won't have it now either...but it's a good thought!)
Many people have expressed their concerns and feelings here in this thread, and I've empathized with more than a few, but like many others here, I've never met you and probably never will, but you have also impacted my life in different ways on more than a few occasions. I talk to my close buddies about different things posted on "the Forum" and you will always be "The old Marine in Texas", and are known here by them as a good source of information, truth, morality and good judgement. Glad you and yours are ok.
maryjane, I am glad to see that you could return home to at least the house being without a problem. And I am quite glad that most of your cattle seem to be fine too. From your description, in a previous post I didn't hold out much hope of the cattle surviving, but obviously, they are pretty resistant.
I am also sorry for the loss of your neighbor. I am sure that there are going to be a whole lot of other lives that will have been lost too during this very unusual event. Hearing what happened to your neighbor reminds me of what we used to call trees dropped in a river, Strainers. The branches act to hold you underwater as the current pushes against you. Even in a small current, it can be deadly. So I cannot imagine the hazards of being in a flood with all kinds of strainers as hazards.
I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers along with all of the other people affected by this storm.

Glad to see you're back MJ... and that things weren't as bad as they could have been. Let me know if there's anything that we can all do. If there are any tools or anything that you need for your livelihood that you can't continue on without, we'll all pitch in to help... just let us know. There's no shame here...
Thanks for posting back Mr. Jane. I look forward to your updates, as long as they contain so good news. I am sorry for your loss of your neighbor/ friend.
Look on the bright side, maybe all that water will help some trees grow. We all know how you love trees

I am there in spirit. Is it full ? Put it in the fridge. I am going to come up there and help you do something. I haven't been able to get a Schlitz in over a year.
Many of you remember Nicholas Cann who used to be on this forum. I am in touch with him by way of Facebook and he has been worried about maryjane and asked that I post this here as a message to maryjane.
So I went to PFF, and read with great dismay of the water wreaking so much havoc in their lives. As I can't post there any more, would you, or one of the other PPF'ers here, please pass on my best wishes to somebody I have always highly respected, and tell him he has been in my thoughts since this catastrophic storm hit Texas. I will be very grateful if anybody could post my message there please, or at least relay it on to Don and Jane. Thanks!
I truly hope that model guidance is wrong and Irma just veers of the the NNE and plays itself out in the empty cold Atlantic, but the 5 day forecast sure looks ominous.
Otherwise, it has all the makings of an Andrew type storm.. The SE and Fla need no more rain and sure don't need the wind and flood associated with a hurricane.

Damnit to hell. I don't mind being in a hurricane if I'm at my house to make sure it's ok. But my house is directly in the path, and I don't know if my tenants are going to bother putting up the shutters. Next year, that's going in the lease agreement.
Honestly though, if it follows those tracks, Cuba and Haiti / Dominican Republic will slow it down.
