The Satanic Temple of Seattle's own Lilith Starr and a small band of colorfully costumed acolytes faced off against a group of antagonists at the site of a high school football game in the Seattle suburb of Bremerton on Thursday.
The contretemps pits assistant football coach Joe Kennedy's desire to continue his tradition of a brief post-game prayer ritual at midfield against a "cease and desist" directive from the Bremerton School District, which has placed Kennedy on administrative leave after he refused to stop taking a knee for 20 seconds on the field after shaking hands with the opposing coaches.
The group from the Satanic Temple of Seattle had been expected to take the occasion of Thursday night’s football game to hold their own postgame ceremony, complete with burning incense, a ringing gong and some kind of public proclamation, but that didn't happen.
According to the Associated Press, the Satanists were invited by Abe Bartlett, president of the senior class at Bremerton High School, and some other students.
