Top Gear's Richard Hammond and James May to refuse £4MILLION return for show with Jeremy Clarkson
Richard Hammond and James May will turn down a £4million BBC offer to return to Top Gear – instead launching a new show with axed Jeremy Clarkson.
A source claimed the trio, along with executive producer Andy Wilman are “very close” to signing a big-money deal with Netflix and no amount would persuade them to return to the BBC2 show without Clarkson.
The three pals have actually been in talks with several media outlets - including ITV - but the source claimed the American outlet, whose hit shows include House of Cards, was now the favoured option.
The insider said: “Flattering though it is to be offered huge sums there’ll be no going back. It wouldn’t feel right and their heart wouldn’t be in it.
"They’ve always said they come as a team and that hasn’t changed.
I suggest that they film the new show at the Sebring race course here in Florida. They would feel at home since the Sebring course is located at an airport like the old Top Gear location.

Don't all three of these guys live in the UK? How would they "feel at home" travelling all the way to Florida to film the show?
Part of the appeal of Top Gear is the fact that it was not filmed in the States. Seriously... and that's no knock on the US. Why change what works and try to re-invent the wheel?

I doubt it. I suspect it's a case of more money over money.
All three of them are loaded, and James May and Richard Hammond also have their own separate shows on BBC, including a wine drinking show, and a cooking show.
So this definitely isn't about money, there is a point at which... unless you are a business owner (like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, etc... ) then more money really doesn't mean a whole lot.
And it figures you'd respond to me in that manner.
the manner I'd like to reply to you trolling every post I make, would be r rated.. so I try to zen, and let you be the troll that you are
must be a sad little world you live in, that you think everything is about the almighty dollar, some put family and friend first.. something you'd clearly never understand..

"trolling"? If you can't respond in a civil manner to anything I might post that's on topic, that's your problem.

Don't hold back, let's see how you really feel. Might do you good to release all these years of pent up venom.

As usual, you know nothing of which you speak.
Interesting how you fabricate one BS accusation after another.
Still insisting that I smuggle goods across the border to cheat on taxes?

Something about the two of you. It just doesn't work.
Ya think not?

This **** is just too "school yard". Step it up a notch.
If you're hankering for an old-fashioned slug fest, venture into the archives and read over your many exchanges with Stimpy. Now that's entertainment... although Jeff kicking your ass over and over might not be quite what you're looking for.

Yes, you are probably right. I do think Sebring would make a good location for an American car show though.

I think what he meant by this is that Top Gear is currently filmed on an old airport runway that's partially converted into a track as well. Sebring is also the same way... it's an old air strip (now a regional airport), so it's very similar in feel.

As an American, not quite sure I get the appeal of something JUST BECAUSE it's not American... but as far as I'm concerned, I watch shows if they're good. There are a lot of shows that are Canadian that I watch, including house flipping / renovation shows, Being Erica (when it was out, don't laugh), and Trailer Park Boys... almost all of them filmed by the CBC. I liked them because they were good, not because they were Canadian, though I didn't have anything against them being Canadian either way. I liked Top Gear because of the dynamics between the three guys... just like Moulder and Scully in X-Files, or Harrison Ford and pretty much anyone. I liked Top Gear... in SPITE of the fact that they made fun of America every chance they got (at least Clarkson did...)

As a Canadian, I can tell you that it's awfully difficult not to be totally overrun by American media. So yes, it's enjoyable to watch/listen to something good that's not American as it usually has a different perspective. That's why I personally do not like to see a successful series from the UK transformed into an American show.

And yet so many of you (Americans) here appear to adore him. I admit that I enjoy the show when I watch it, but I suspect Clarkson is an egotistical boor in real life.

We like ANYONE who is willing to challenge authority and push boundaries. It's in our nature.

I think Clarkson would be awesome to have a beer with and talk cars and politics. Kinda what we do here....a lot.... I like the show as it was. It won't be Top Gear anymore so a format change will be in order. It will be interesting to see where they take it. I doubt it will be a mainly British program though. They've taken Top Gear to a new level over the years. I love the specials where they take the show around the world. I would love to see them do some in Canada. I think the love that Canadians have for their cars is underestimated. And as far as us as Americans, Clarkson comes off as pompus and totally politically incorrect. That is right down our wheel house!!
