I'm heart broken...
My bulldog companion of 10 1/2 years was put to sleep this weekend. On Saturday he experienced between 25 and 30 seizures and I made the decision after the vet said that they would not be able to bring him back to 100% health. It is believed that he had a brain tumor and that it had reached sufficient size to cause this. I suspected that he had some neurological issues developing from some of his body motions.
I will greatly miss him, He was such a Good Dog!

Although it really doesn't help, I understand. We lost Cookie (our Boxer / Border Collie mix) to a seizure related disorder - actually low blood sugar due to pancreatitis - a little over two years ago. We still sometimes get watery eyed when we think about her.

When my GrandFather died my Dad took it very well, When his dog died he was VERY upset. It will take time to get over the loss of your best friend.

So sorry Nolan. We probably never get over the loss completely but, as the hackneyed old saying goes..it stops hurting, and the great memories come flooding back, and they bring a smile in the end, not tears any more. When we lost our family Shih Tzu, the best medicine we found was to quickly get a new puppy. It was an immediate cure. IP: Logged |

Sourmug,
I love my bulldog Daisy and I know how special the breed is. I am at school for weeks at a time before coming home and she is ALWAYS the first one to greet me when I come home. We play a little then I sit on the couch and she lays her head on my lap and we just sit there and just enjoy each others company. Please accept me deepest condolences and I hope the pain passes...and remember there are other little bulldogs out there that need your love!IP: Logged |

I feel for you.

Very sad. You have my sincerest condolences.
Losing any pet is terrible, but knowing a number of bulldogs, they are an awesome breed. Too sad.IP: Logged |

My condolences on your loss and I hope this helps..
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. (Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die! Mary Frye (1932)
PS
He looks just like you.

I assume you got your user name from Cedric.
My user name is a combination of my dog's name and part of my last name...
Bandit is 13 and has congestive heart failure so unfortunately, his days are numbered.IP: Logged |

My condolences. I hate seeing these types of threads, I know that losing my dog would leave a hole missing in my heart. I hope that you can find some comfort in your memories and the fact that Cedric now knows no pain. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I really appreciate them all. For some reason I'm finding the loss of Cedric really hard. Over the last 17 years we have had dogs, 3 total, and when one died there was always another dog in the house that I could pet and get comfort from, but this is the first time that we are poochless.

I'm very sorry to hear of Cedric passing away. I had no idea how affectionate bulldogs could be until I spent about a month going to work on a Fiero of mine at a friend's place who has three bulldogs. Every day that I turned up there, all three bulldogs would gallop up to me like three little linebackers, "shouldering" each other out of the way to welcome me first. Pretty funny to see.
So yes, if this affection is bred into each and every bulldog, I can certainly see how you would be devastated at the loss of your buddy. IP: Logged |

We could be talking about the same friend and same bulldogs (although I know we aren't; but he was a former forum member) and his bulldogs were the exact same way. He even jumped off of a dock into a frozen pond to save one of them a few years ago in the middle of Winter and had to walk home with the dog after. They are awesome dogs. I had never been exposed to bulldogs before that and I found them a bit intimidating at first, but they are so loving, and playful and interesting. Awesome animals. Having 3 of them though, I think he was on a first name basis with their vets, it was pretty much weekly he was taking one of them somewhere for something.[This message has been edited by Rainman (edited 02-09-2010).] IP: Logged |

Yes, they are very affectionate and complete clowns to boot! They are definitely my favorite breed.
They do tend to shoulder things out of the way and when they see something they want to get to they go in a strait line regardless of what or who is in the way. My wife refers to them a bowling balls with legs!

There are no words for this. :} May he, and you, find peace. From experience I can tell you, sadly, that the truer that love was, the harder the final journey will be. But you will make it, for the love of your friend.IP: Logged |

Thanks again everyone for you thoughts and comments. We will probably get another dog at some point but my wife would like to wait a bit until I'm able to look at this rationally and not be emotionally driven. I think that's probably wise on her part.
Thanks! NolanIP: Logged |

"Wise" it may be, but there's nothing even remotely "rational" about having a dog, or any other pet. You do it for, and out of, love, or you don't do it at all. Go visit the local shelter. When the right set of eyes looks at you, you'll know.
