Greetings fellow PFF'ers!
I've seen this done on a couple other forums, it's always a ton of fun and a nice way to get to know other members a little better, so I thought, what the hell? We'll see how this goes, perhaps it can be an annual thing? Hopefully Cliff is cool with this.
It's like the Grammys for our little forum, except these awards actually mean something. (Zing! )
We create our own categories for awards, nominate nominees, and then vote for the winner out of the nominees. The winner of each category will get a special little surprise once the votes have been tallied and everything is said and done.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the categories as of now:
Best looking fastback. Best looking notchback. Fiero with the largest displacement. Highest Mileage Fiero. Lowest Mileage Fiero. Stock Fiero in the best shape. Stock Fiero in the worst shape. Most "McGuyver-ish" Fiero repair. Most Fieros (Business). Most Fieros (Personal). Worst (Coolest) engine/trans damage in a Fiero.
Oldest active member. Youngest active member. Most technically helpful member. Most political member. Most charitable member. Nicest member. Meanest member. Weirdest member. Hardest member to understand. Funniest member. Forum prom King. Forum prom Queen. Member most likely to do jail time. Member most likely to break a donut. Member most likely never to finish their Fiero. Most imaginative use of the Fiero logo. Member most secure with his/her sexuality. Member most likely to break/wreck his/her Fiero. Member most likely to be ticketed because of his/her Fiero. Member most deserving of the title "The Fiero Whisperer" Member that hasn't driven their Fiero in the longest span of time. Member with the most posts. Member with the most detachable body parts. Wackiest avatar. Most creative/unique avatar. Best signature.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you would like to see a new category added, post it. In order to prevent a "flood" of categories, I'm going to say there must be at least 2 "votes" for a category to be added to the list, just so things don't get to out of hand.
Again, this is all in good fun, so if you get something like the "Weirdest Member" award, wear it with pride. Also, I could of course use a couple of people to help me choose these surprises/count votes when the time comes. That is, if there is anybody interested in playing this little game. If you have any ideas, please feel free to add!
***UPDATE****
At the end of this week (perhaps earlier?) voting/adding of categories will be closed and nominations will begin, so start thinking about who you'd like to see win these prestigious awards.
Also, as far as nominations go, we'll have a few simple ground rules. You can't nominate yourself for a category (Unless it's a factual category like oldest active member, youngest active member, etc.) and again, so we don't have a four-page-long list of nominees for one category, you must be nominated twice to make the list of nominees. If anyone else can think of something that should be added as a rule/guideline, let me know. [This message has been edited by Valkyrie (edited 02-14-2010).] IP: Logged |

You might as well write FieroX into the "Fastest Fiero" category. I seriously doubt he has any legitimate competition.IP: Logged |

Member with the most Fieros business and non-business
That's one I would like to see.
I can also see yet another group of awards I will never own.
Oooohh,
Member most likely to never win an award <----winning the award would disqualify him from winning the award, and the Earth would implode.

Hmm- Fiero Factory has a pretty good size herd of Fieros--tho I do not know if they are members.
Loyde (FastFieros) had over 20 last time I heard.

Rarest Fiero
And not just one that was advertised as rare on E-Bay, or Craigslist.
I would say that the prototype, or perhaps a Mera would count toward this. (and the arguing begins.)
We can set this up with a vote somehow, and get the community involved in the decision.

Perhaps that'll inspire people to add a little extra oomph to their cars.
Adding Member with the most Fieros (business and non-business) to the list.
I'd like to add "Member most likely to never win an award" but I couldn't picture anyone but PK86 winning that one anyways.

This one could be difficult. Because when it comes to actual rarity, things like the prototype would have to win due to their being only one vs. a handful of Meras.
Perhaps "Nicest Rare Fiero" would work better?
Maybe when voting time comes around, we could get Cliff to post it on the main page? Replace the "How Many Fieros do you currently own" poll with the award categories. Allow voting for a week, change to the next category after that.[This message has been edited by Valkyrie (edited 02-07-2010).] IP: Logged |

Best handling Fiero
We all too easy forget what the Fiero is best at: corners. Best handling can mean: highest G's on skidpad, fastest turn response, highest speed maintained around corners of varying sharpness, best braking, etc. Those that race AutoX as opposed to drag would probably not stand a chance in any performance category without this. I know I've said it on here before, and I think there are others here that are with me, that I am more concerned with how well my Fiero handles than with how fast it goes.

X may have that one as well---depends what you call 'blown' I guess---I know he went thru a lot of hardware when he was running a 2.8.

I like this idea. We'd need solid numbers for this though. I think highest speed around a corner would be the best way to decide this. What do you think?IP: Logged |

That also comes down to the question of: How hard are people going to want to push their cars? I'm just dumb enough to push mine beyond the breaking point going around a >70 ÌŠ corner as hard as I can regardless of what the car is capable of and then losing it and wrecking the Fiero...IP: Logged |

Slalom I think would be a good test. Along with various other 'empty parking lot with setup cones' type of maneuvering (offset slalom, 0-60-0 times, AutoX type of road coarse laid out in cones, etc).IP: Logged |

Sounds great. We can iron out details and specifics when we pick an official "handling test". I'll add handling to the list now. IP: Logged |

Instead of how many engines blown, how about coolest blown up engine? I have an awesome picture of an old 2.8 piston I blew. Spoon currently owns it and I'm sure he'll agree its frickin' amazing.------------------

I dunno. I would think I would give fierox a run for his money in the blown engine. I'm talking blown! Destroyed block blown. Not total for all your cars but your fiero. I've learned a good leason with blowing all these engines. The 2.8 don't like anything over 6500rpm. IP: Logged |

A guy in AZ has a Mera that was maybe the only one not ordered as a Mera. A guy who worked for the factory bought two 86 GTs. One day when the Mera people were at the factory he asked them if he took one of his GTs to them would they convert it and they agreed to do it. The guy kept all of the parts that were removed to do the conversion. He retired to AZ and GAVE both cars to the guy I know. He wanted them to go to someone who was a true lover of Fieros.

Thanks for the input! Hold that thought though. Nominations will happen once we have picked and chosen all the categories, just to keep things simplified.

Should keep it to people, not machines, IMHO We all read each others' posts, and can judge from them. We don't all know everybody else's car(s), and so a fair award can not be made. Although build threads are easily accessible. Innovative design work, turned into reality. Paint jobs are difficult to define too, because I know only too well my Fiero looks a lot better in a photo than real life 'Performance' awards will only turn into (to coin a phrase ) d+ck-banging contests, as usual Just my 0:02 cents Nick Edit to add: Forum Father I nominate maryjane!! Forum mother? Darlene, of course, but she still seems to be recovering from the SS administration...and who can blame her? I do agree with what you're saying, there's a potential this could turn ugly, but this is PFF, hopefully we can all be PFFs (Pennock's Fiero Friends) and play nicely for this little event/game. And since it is just a for fun game, it doesn't have to be super serious and official. It should be more like a football game in your backyard with your buddies, and less like the Super Bowl, know what I mean?
So I'll put this out there as a disclaimer right now.
Should any participant in this event get all serious and defensive and shouty and nasty, you WILL get the wooden spoon! Or the hose... or the broom... Or PK... whichever is closest. Also, I'm sure Cliff won't be too impressed, and then he'll yell. So yeah! Play nice, let's keep this fun. If you win, you win, if you lose, you lose, let's not turn this into a d!ck banging contest. And to be honest, the "prizes" (at least the ones I have in mind) aren't really worth arguing over anyhow.
Perhaps any nominee getting caught d!ck banging will be disqualified from nominations?IP: Logged |

Well, I'd like to see if Cliff would perhaps allow the poll on the main page to be used for voting. If not, I'll create a thread for a category, and people just post their vote. This could be a lot of counting though, which is why I could use a couple helpers.IP: Logged |
