I agree with the article, and those who agree with it. It's just pointing out the technical aspect of the simple fact that the more you sin, the easier it becomes to sin, and the more you feel that it isn't sin. I don't feel that the article was specifically implying 'brain damage', just what happens to your perceptions and how they're altered. I have experienced this personally, and I can tell you that it is very difficult to fully kick the addiction to pron and masturbation when you've been engrossed in it for many years.
As for marriage, it is VASTLY under-rated and under-appreciated in our society. It is a wonderful thing to spend your life with another who becomes, in part, entirely one with you. Intercourse is the physical showing of the oneness of a real marriage between two people of the opposite and complimentary sex. Intercourse is for two things... first and foremost the creation of human life (no matter how hard you try to deny it and/or block it from happening), and a close second it is for the complete bonding of the opposite and complimentary sex that you have committed your life to (the physical pleasure is a very wonderful addition, signifying the scope, grandeur, and deep importance of the act as well as providing a physical motivation to continue our race). Once you fully understand these principles and experience them, you can easily begin to see how anything else trying to replace permanently married intercourse is fake, selfish, and damaging to humankind as a whole, even if you were ignorant to the fact previously.
Wild animals have sex to survive, it's a necessary part of life for the species to survive. We are not wild animals. We were created differently, and accordingly need to act different, though their reason for intercouse is equal to our first reason. Comparing us to wild animals is a false way to justify inappropriate actions, even when you are unfortunately blind to that fact.

God gave us sex to be enjoyed between one man and one woman who treated each other as partners, equals. Pornography treats women as objects to be used for whatever crude desires men can think of. Dehumanizing some one is the first step to destroying them. When we cater to the worst of our natures, in language, thought, and deed, we set society on the road to destruction. The second law of thermodynamics applies to morality as well to energy. When we don't apply energy to raising our standards of conduct and respect for each other, we actively drive ourselves back to the base and crude. Our embracing of open sexuality, and "if it feels good do it, " has done us no favors. In a class on STDs in the late 1960s, the subject was two: syphilis and gonorrhea. Now, 40 years later, we are afflicted by more than 25. It isn't hard to see a correlation between sexual freedom, which is badly mis-named, and the growth of disease. |

Well said.
I also think it doesn't even take any respect or acknowledgment of biblical teachings or religion to understand this.IP: Logged |

"Infidelity statistics have varied drastically over the past 50 years. The problem with obtaining accurate statistics on adultery is that most people will not tell the truth because it is such a sensitive subject. Controlled cheating surveys are scarce and the below infidelity percentages have been randomly collected from various sources.
INFIDELITY AND CHEATING STATISTICS:
-Because of the anonymity, affordability, and accessibility of Internet sexual resources, the computer can accelerate the transition from "at risk" to "addicted," as well as the progression of sex addiction in those with a history of prior sexual compulsivity. Cooper et al Survey
Spouses who get hooked on Internet **** are a growing complaint among spouses filing for divorce, according to a survey of 350 divorce attorneys. "If there's dissatisfaction in the existing relationship, the Internet is an easy way for people to scratch the itch," said lawyer J. Lindsey Short, Jr., president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which conducted the study.
Evidence proves there is a high correlation between on-line infidelity and subsequent real-time sexual affairs.
Evidence supports the existence of disinhibition, accelerated intimacy, and hyper-sexual online behavior that can easily lead to real-time infidelity

Infidelity statistics It's tough to get a handle on how many of us are having affairs, given the inherent secrecy.
22 percent of married men have strayed at least once during their married lives. 14 percent of married women have had affairs at least once during their married lives. Younger people are more likely candidates; in fact, younger women are as likely as younger men to be unfaithful. 70 percent of married women and 54 percent of married men did not know of their spouses' extramarital activity. 5 percent of married men and 3 percent of married women reported having sex with someone other than their spouse in the 1997. 22 percent of men and 14 percent of women admitted to having sexual relations outside their marriage sometime in their past. 90 percent of Americans believe adultery is morally wrong. 50 percent of Americans say President Clinton's adultery makes his moral standard "about the same as the average married man,'' according to a Time-CNN poll. 61 percent of Americans thought adultery should not be a crime in the United states; 35 percent thought it should; 4 percent had no opinion. 17 percent of divorces in the United States are caused by infidelity.

-About 24 percent of men and 14 percent of women have had sex outside their marriages, according to a Dec. 21, 1998 report in USA Today on a national study by the University of California, San Francisco.
A lesser known fact is that those who divorce rarely marry the person with whom they are having the affair. For example, Dr. Jan Halper’s study of successful men (executives, entrepreneurs, professionals) found that very few men who have affairs divorce their wife and marry their lovers. Only 3 percent of the 4,100 successful men surveyed eventually married their lovers.
Frank Pittman has found that the divorce rate among those who married their lovers was 75 percent. The reasons for the high divorce rate include: intervention of reality, guilt, expectations, a general distrust of marriage, and a distrust of the affairee.
-Statistics show more than 72,000 sexually explicit sites on the web and an estimated 266 new **** sites being added each day. These sites alone generate a revenue of $1 billion dollars each year. Harding Institute
-One-third of divorce litigation is caused by online affairs "This Is An Internet E-Mergency", The Fortino Group
-Approximately 70% of time on-line is spent in chat rooms or sending e-mail; of these interactions, the vast majority are romantic in nature. Dr. Michael Adamse, PhD., co-author of "Affairs of the Net: The Cybershrinks' Guide to Online Relationships"
-8-10 percent of Internet users become hooked on cybersex.Dr. Bob Lanier, askbob.com 38% of people have engaged in explicit online sexual conversation and 50% of people have made phone contact with someone they chatted with online. 31% of people have had an online conversation that has led to real-time sex. -It is estimated that 53% of all people will have one or more affairs during their lifetime.
Experts say that a gut instinct is the most powerful indicator of a cheating lover. Adultery statistics state that 85% of woman who feel their lover is cheating are correct. 50% of men who feel their lover is cheating are right. The first clue is seldom obvious. Typically, it's a "feeling" that something is different.
It is estimated that 750,000 children have been aggressively pursued for sex on the Internet, 1 out 5 of these children were solicited for sex and 1 out of 4 children were sent pictures of people naked or having sex.
There are recurring press reports of pedophiles using chat rooms to lure children into physical meetings. According to a recent national newspaper report, chat rooms are the most popular activity for children online, yet most chat rooms are unsupervised. Many are private, accessible only by invitation and special passwords (which may be provided to children by e-mail or instant-type messages to the screen of a targeted child).
Police investigators report that when they identify themselves as teenaged girls in chat rooms they are frequently approached by strangers making sexual advances. In addition, pedophiles have created a community online, where they can validate their behavior with other like-minded individuals and share information and tricks of the trade.
Cheating spouse statistics confirm that 50 and 70 percent of married men (between 38 and 53 million men) have cheated or will cheat on their wives. One study found that 2/3 of the wives (26 to 36 million women) whose husbands were cheating had no idea their husbands were having an affair - largely because they failed to recognize the telltale signs."

"Sex Addiction: How to Overcome Sex Addiction
Sexual addiction is described as a progressive intimacy disorder characterized by compulsive sexual thoughts and acts. Like all other addictions, its negative impact on the addict and on family members increases as the disorder progresses. Over time, the addict has to intensify the addictive behavior to achieve the same results.
For some sex addicts, behavior does not progress beyond compulsive masturbation or the widespread use of pornography or phone or computer sex services. For others, addiction can involve illegal activities such as voyeurism, exhibitionism, obscene phone calls, child molestation or rape. Sex addicts do not inevitably become sex offenders. Furthermore, not all sex offenders are sex addicts. According to psychcentral roughly 55% of convicted sex offenders can be considered sex addicts. About 71% of child molesters are sex addicts. For many, their problems are so severe that imprisonment is only the way to ensure society's safety against them.
According to a sex poll of over 8,000 women conducted by WomanSavers.com, over 54% of women said they were sexually molested by an adult male as a child. Statistics such as these are shocking and confirm how serious of a problem sexual addiction actually is in our society.
Society has accepted that a sex offender's actions stems not from sexual fulfillment, but rather out of a disturbed need for power, dominance, control or revenge, or a perverted expression of anger. More recently, however, an awareness of brain changes and brain reward related with sexual behavior has led us to understand that there are also powerful sexual drives that motivate sex offenses. ... The consequences of sexual addiction may be devastating to not only the addict but also those close to him/her. It can leave an addict isolated, immensely anxious and depressed to the point of being suicidal. Low self-esteem, hopelessness, shame, and despair are also common feelings experienced by sex addicts. The ramifications of sex addiction do not end on an emotional level but rather, continue onto medical, financial and legal ones too."

And what defines pr0n? Remember the Muslim faith says it is wrong to show some ankle, so should the 'ol lady and I go ahead and get a divorce? I looked at an ankle the other day, I felt dirty, but it was sooooo good.

lol - causes brain damage, eh? I can see causing penile "rug burn"
anyways - any Howard Stern fans? maybe the recent thing JD mentioned? he actually cannot even masturbate without **** anymore. he has spent so much time with internet **** , and no females, that he has actually made himself useless. while I wouldnt call this brain damage yet - I can certainly see the path.
and - next - a very common issue with people new to computers: they forget to blink while using the PC, and this irratates the eyeballs. and, add pron to this, and now you not only got the no blinking - but also fixated - I can see retinal damage, especially from CRTs.
but - this is specificly internet pron on a PC - but - that pretty much is what pron is anymore. Like every other GOOD thing - to much is bad for ya.
edit: oh yeah - I had to disable my firewalls pron filter to post in this thread. YAY[This message has been edited by Pyrthian (edited 02-08-2010).] IP: Logged |

Well, I don't put much stock in any scientific study that has to quote the Bible.... But the great thing about the internet is it's all true, so I guess I must have brained my damage.

I have difficulty believing such a claim that pornography causes brain damage. Yes, it is true that anything you do repeatedly remaps your neurons. So what? Does the guy that drinks too much coffee have brain damage? How about the woman that drives too fast? How about the neat freak or the slob? Do they have brain damage because their neurons are remapped to a certain pattern?
How does lusting after an imaginary woman on the computer screen damage your brain when lusting after your wife does not? A man with a wife has a much stronger sexual experience and connection since his experience includes all the senses and not just one or two. How about men who live in next to the beach and can see beautiful women daily?
It is male nature to want to have sex with man different women. To say that all sexual preditors view pornographic material is like saying all sexual preditors breath and drink water too.
I want to see brain scans showing the physical damage to the brain caused by viewing pornography. Otherwise this is just someone's opinion on the subject with no evidence to back it up.IP: Logged |

The other day I believe I found a church I can finally belong to and not feel alone.
I can picture a few people in this tread sitting in the pews listening intently.
http://www.landoverbaptist.org
And a sample article from their website.
| | | quote | Pastor Orders Christian Men to Only Think About Jesus While Masturbating
Freehold, Iowa - The Landover Conference of Deacons last week passed one of the most controversial resolutions of the church's 200-year history. The organization has once again lessened restrictions on self-gratification. All church members know that the controversy on this issue reached a new height last year when Landover lowered the allowable age of masturbation to 65 for recent widowers. The church has revised that policy yet again. "We really had no choice," noted a tired and distraught Pastor Deacon Fred during a news conference held shortly after the decision was reached. "Last month, several middle-aged divorced men challenged the church policy. They claimed that because they can never remarry (since to do so would constitute adultery-Matthew 5:32), and because they cannot have non-marital sex (since fornication ensures eternity in Hell-1 Corinthians 6:9-10), they should at least be allowed to defile their bodies as a consolation. Needless to say, we put very little stock in the words of men who would put their wives away. But they challenged us to find any Bible verse prohibiting masturbation. After 72 hours of searching the Lord's Word, we came up empty-handed, if you'll pardon the expression. We even consulted 17th century Bible scholar, Brother Harry Hardwick, but he, too, could find nothing prohibiting flesh-pulling. Everyone knows that all Landover rules come straight from the Bible. We don't ignore the parts we don't like, as the John 3:16 pseudo-Christians do, nor do we add to the Bible, like those Pope-loving Catholics."
The new policy is not without its limitations, however. "While the Bible does not outlaw masturbation, it severely restricts the circumstances under which it may occur," noted Pastor Deacon Fred. The first restriction is that no Landover gentleman will be permitted to reach the stage of ejaculation. "The Bible is very clear that a man's seed is for copulation only," noted Pastor. "In fact, the Bible says that when Onan chose not to copulate and instead released his seed on the ground, God was so angry that he struck Onan dead (Genesis 38:9-10). The last thing we need is some media scandal as reporters click photos of colored janitors removing corpses from Landover restrooms." Recognizing that a few men may err and sin by not stopping in time, the new policy requires all who decide to participate in the act to register with Pastor Deacon Fred. Specially made Tupperware seed-containers will be signed out of his office by Mrs. Watkins who will be keeping a record to guard against overuse. The sinner must catch his mistake in his numbered container before it reaches the ground. All containers are to be returned to Mrs. Watkins within one hour of check-out. The contents will be collected each week in a larger vat and provided to Mary Lou's Christian Salon where it will be used to treat dry, scaly skin.
The second restriction is that no man will be permitted to have any sexual thoughts during the process. "The apostles told us repeatedly that Jesus forbids lust, since sex is for baby-making, not anxiety release," continued Pastor. "We are to 'abstain from fleshly lusts' (1 Peter 2:11) and 'flee also youthful lusts' (2 Timothy 2:22), for lust 'bringeth forth death' (James 1:15). And more to the point for those debauched divorcees, Matthew told us that 'whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart' (Matthew 5:28). This means that masturbation of an erect organ can occur only if the erection is naturally-induced, such as by the morning sun or an overfilled bladder." Pastor Deacon Fred then concluded, "The only way to masturbate without lust is to keep your mind on Christ at all times."
The new policy instantly drew the ire of countless Landover members. Longstanding church member, Mrs. Judy O'Christian, was incensed. Despite being a woman, Mrs. O'Christian was allowed to speak since the press conference was held outside the chapel. "As co-chairs of the Ladies of Landover Welcoming Committee, Sister Taffy and I have to greet all new church members," she pleaded. "This policy means we will have to destroy our silk gloves every time we shake hands with a male member . . . ah, church member, that is. Halston doesn't sell accessories in six-packs, you know."
Pastor Deacon Fred attempted to assuage the ladies' concerns. "This policy will in no way open the floodgates, so to speak. Punishment for violations of the new restrictions will be swift and certain. The Bible says that if a part of our body offends us, we must cut it off (Matthew 5:29-30). Any man found to have engaged in sexual thoughts during the process, or to have reached full fruition without capturing the full emission, will have his organ severed and his preferred hand amputated. And every man will know that when that happens, his destiny is Hell, for as God told us: "He that is wounded in the stones or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord" (Deuteronomy 23:1). Rest assured, God takes no stock in the Satanic adage: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.". |

Why? You brought up sexual predators, the only thing that easily fits into this thread about them is they are pretty much guaranteed to look at a lot of ****.
This probably works: Definition 1. In the broad sense of the word, sexual predators are people who commit sexual crimes. The term "predator," however, usually indicates a repeat offender who enjoys the feeling of "hunting down" his prey. Many sexual predators attack only a particular type of victim, such as children of a certain age, sex or race. Sexual predators are usually friendly, self-assured individuals who target their victims carefully, rather than choosing at random. Harassment 2. Sexual predators often get attached to their victims. Attachment often results in cyberstalking or harassment, when the predator constantly contacts the victim to ask for sexual favors (which can be anything from posing naked on camera to meeting for sex), and threatening death or injury to the victim or her family if she doesn't comply. If the response is not acceptable, the criminal usually starts contacting friends, posting photos of the victim online and giving away her phone number, making phone calls and making direct threats. Crimes 3. The term "sexual predator" doesn't always indicate that a person has committed a crime, since the legal definition of the term varies according to each state. Usually, law enforcement uses the term "sexual predator" when talking about someone who searches for a victim regardless of whether the person actually attacks somebody or commits a crime.
