OK for the skinny on the knee, Feb 2nd I am going in for knee surgery, doc says 4-6 weeks recovery time, first week pretty much in bed. Second week mostly in bed with minor walking around no stairs. Then over the month after that limited walking, but again still mostly TV and Games for a month and a half.

My PC is pretty up to date, Core 2 Duo E8400 overclocked to 3.5ghz, 4gig DDR2 Ram, new 5670 DX11 Video card with 1gig DDR5 ram and 4.0ghz clocked GPU.

I have already grabbed NFS Shift as it is my favorite style of racing game. Grabbed Unreal Tournament, Grabbed Avatar the Game, Mass Effect 2, and Fear with all the expansion packs.

I just downloaded 12hrs of NCIS LA, 13hrs of "The Good Wife" Cougar Town, and all 5 Seasons of House. Grey's Anatomy, and dozens of Car Guy movies. I can't seem to find any sites with Pinks or Horsepower TV though.

I want suggestions for new Series shows that might be good and I have just not picked up on them.

Games, they have to be FUN. IE NFS Shift, and Unreal. If I have to "think" to play the game rather than just have fun, It's probably not what I am looking for.

As for the knee, they are going to open me up like a tuna can, fix some tendons, some ligaments, move my knee cap back to where it is suppose to be, then cast it, and put in a drain. Hopefully they will find the source of the grinding while they are in there and cap off blown blood vessel so my knee will return to normal size. Funny as it is, I did this trying to move a complete V6 Fiero engine, trans, cradle suspension assembly across the garage alone and slipped and twisted the knee. I have a 3 month old daughter here that is getting really frustrated not being able to have her Daddy walk her around. So I'll be glad to get this all fixed finally.

When I had my knee surgery I went insane with bordem! Video games get old quick! So I built a few model cars. That was fun for a week. Then I cleaned my rc car pice by piece. 3 days later I was done. It got soooo boring. Until I got a air hog havoc heli. I would fly that stupid thing around for hours. Then I would land it on top of stuff. That lasted for 2-3 weeks. As far as video games go mx vs atv reflex is fun and call of duty modern war fare was fun. If you get super board download auto cad. Make all sorts of cool stuff with that.

Ya I can see being really boared. I am thinking of re-formating my server and my main PC, that usually takes about 3-4 days before I get them both up and running perfect. I'll look into autocad, I always wanted to learn how to use that. Even just for buidling simple steel structures.

Never played that, but, I'll take a look around for it.

If you have never watch It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, this is a must see. It just finished up season 5. I also watched all of the season of The Office. I am just finishing up a show from my youth, Roswell. It is amazing how much time commercials take up when you watch broadcast TV. Downloading an entire season is the only way to go.

Not a big RPG fan, and so far Mass Efffect 2 has been kinda dissapointing. I'll keep Dragon wars in mind though.

I've never even heard of that. Whats it about off the top of your head. (I know I should just go imdb it)

Noticing your ICON, is that the HTC Tytn II aka Tilt?

Another hobby of mine is flashing old phones and updating. I might even go ahead and pick up the Sony Experia just to play with. I have 2 Windows Mobil 6.1 and 6.5 phones plus an new HTC Dream Android phone. I hate the android phone with a passion. Which is why I might get the Experia and do a quick rom flash to 6.5

Its not for everyone, its more of an interactive story.

Top Gear!!! (That is, if you haven't already watched them all)

They are on season 14 and www.finalgear.com has easy access to torrents for them all.

I second It's Always Sunny In Philly, and recommend The League.

www.southparkstudios.com has streaming for almost every episode of South Park.

I can't help with PC games but I will second COD: Modern Warfare 2, I've been playing on xbox for a while now.

Ya interactive stories are not my thing. I am more a run and gun shoot em up type games. Hell I barley like the "team" games on unreal. I get unhappy when I have to stop shooting or accelerating.

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a HUGE Top Gear Fan, I even download the stuff that they do that is not Top Gear, IE James May's cool toys series, special Airplane episodes, and all the early Jeremy Clarkson stuff before he was doing Top Gear and it was only him fooling around with cars.

Lisa likes Top Gear as well, however even she gets annoyed when I cue up an entire season of it and watch it for hours on end.

Side note, FieroZen has been living with us for a while and he is moving back to England, going to buy a Catterham when he gets there. Lucky SOB that he is.

It is a CDMA devices. The HTC-6800 or the Mogul or the Titan. I don't use that anymore, haven't in 2 generations. I now currently have a Touch Pro 2. CDMA. It is unlocked for GSM use too. I can't describe the show, just that it is hysterical. I used to enjoy playing with phones, but PPCGeeks is so filled with idiots I quit going. XDA has tons of knowledge, but they are more GSM centric and sometimes way out of my grasp as a hobbyist. Goodluck with the surgery.

Its 60% story, cinematic wise its one of the best looking games I have ever played.
You will miss things if you didnt play one but you can still enjoy the story.

Hope the surgery goes well- don't forget to elevate it(if they tell you that you should)
Make sure you eat healthy so you heal well.
Enjoy your 'down time', maybe you can create something fantastic.(Many folks do this when they don't have the pressures of a job and other junk)

Be well.

Its a little more than 12hrs before I go in and frankly I did not think I was going to get this nervous about it. Maybe its a bit childish but I am actully a bit scared nevrous.

I know everything is going to be fine, and I hear I'll have really good drugs while I there LOL.

Well turn your eyes if you can't handle gross pics.

Here is the "before" pics. I have been dealing with this for nearly 6 months.

Good luck Capt. I'm recovering from knee surgery myself. Wasn't much fun, rehab sucks but, you gotta do it. Most of us take our knees for granted until something goes wrong then, we realize just how important they are. Keep us posted and remember, your wife will get to know all of the nurses so, don't talk in your sleep.

Just found out a few mins ago, that one of our Fiero club members is a nurse and she just happens to work today at the same hospital I am going into, she is actually the nurse assigned to me. She emailed me and told me she would take good care of me. (I have a few brownie points, I rebuilt the headlights in her 88GT for her.)

Its going to be nice having a friend that is working there and can make sure I get well taken care of.

Ok so an update.

The surgery went off without any issues. I was in and out in a day.

Now the recovery is not so great.

Knee is killing me, if I take enough percocet that the pain is tolerable, I end up being so nauseated that I can't hold anything down. If I can't eat, I really can't take the pain killers as its twice as bad. So if I don't take the pain killers I get nauseated from the pain and can't eat. Leg is so swollen it does not even look like a leg anymore.

All these games that I downloaded to play, I can't even keep a straight enough head to even think, let alone look at a computer screen for hours on end.

I just want to go and hide in a hole and forget about this entire mess.

On that note, I think I am going to go back to bed, try and sleep. When I am feeling a bit better I'll try and reply again.

No point in being in pain. Call the doc and have them give you something else. Lots of things out there that don't cause stomach issues.
Hope you heal fast and are back on your feet soon.

Sorry about the rant earlier, I was having a bad afternoon.

I did go on the hunt for something else to take, my personal doctor is away till Monday so I went through the house and found a few things that seem to have helped.

I actually wrote this for our local O/T Club chat list which has many of my Non Fiero friends on it. however I thought I would copy it for here as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that this is not "official club stuff" and is only on the chat list.

I just wanted to update my friends on the chat list in regards to my knee surgery. Many of you have been with me during this and helped me along the way, so I wanted to say thank You. Over the course of the last 6 months I have been fighting with BC Medical to find the source of the most recent injury to my knee. Late January they found the missing piece. Something they missed the first go around and put me on the rush list to get it fixed.

Well all the details are pretty much posted here with pics in the later portion. http://westcoastfieros.com/...?TID=1705&PN=1&TPN=1

However here is a more complete version of the surgery events, I went in Feb 2nd, one of our club members Maureen Willey aka RedWilly is a nurse in that department so she was there waiting for me, got me signed in, even had a bed prepared for me, with a bag marked "Capt Fiero" for my personal effects. It was a really nice touch. Knowing that I had a friend on the inside looking out for me and someone that could give Lisa regular updates. There was no waiting around ,I got in, they got me changed, got me some adivan to relax, and moved me right to the surgery area. Within an hour of walking in the door they had the gas on me and I was out like a light. One min I was awake and looking around, the next thing I know, I am waking up in the Recovery room being pumped full of morphine. By 6pm that night, I was stable enough to go home. With strict rules in regards to what I could and could not do. I had a large plastic drain bag and rubber hose stretching outside of my leg that I had to be very careful of. I had to come back in 24hrs to have it removed.

I'm at home now, trying to relax, however that is not going as well as I had hoped. The Percocet screws with my stomach so bad I can't eat, but if I don't eat, I get so nauseated that when I do, it all comes back up anyway. If I don't take the Percocet my knee hurts so bad I feel ill and start to lose my mind. LOL, it's one of those "OH MY GODS WHY ME" moments. The swelling seems to be getting worse though, not better, so I may have to go in and see my family Doctor on Monday. I think I am driving Lisa to the brink of sanity trying to deal with me, and take care of Arianna at the same time.

This is kind of funny to look back on, although not so funny when it happened. Lisa was upstairs with Arianna, and hears me from the balcony down in the yard. I had been in the garage working on the computer wrapped up in a blanket, all of a sudden my stomach decided it had, had enough of last night's Hamburger Helper and Pain Killer combo, so I 1/2 stumbled out the garage door to the grass and uhm, let err loose. So Lisa is upstairs, and all she can see from the balcony is me, hunched over in the wet grass, bare feet, wearing nothing but shorts and a tank top, dry heaving, trying not to fall over. She comes running, brings me something to get cleaned up, then practically threatens to kill me if I get back out of bed again. Those of you that know Lisa, when she gets mad at you, and puts her foot down, ya really don't have much choice in the matter. Just bow your head and do what you are told.

She has been taking really good care of me, and making sure to put me in my place when I try to do something that I shouldn't do, so Thank You Honey for putting up with me . I know I don't say it enough, but I really do appreciate it.

I am still a little too out of it to post photo's so here are the one's Lisa took.

If you are not out our "Facebook" pages, feel free to add the both of us.

Well I am on day 5 and just woke up after a 10hr nap at noon. I woke up leg throbbing took more drugs, had some food and am now relaxing at my computer. I took off the fiberglass brace as frankly I think it was causing more pain than anything because of the way it was pushing on my kneecap. I swapped out to my older cloth brace that has metal bars for support and 7 large Velcro straps. It seems to be much more comfortable. I have a buddy that is into those R/C helicopters, I think he has some of those mini ones, I'll ask him if I can borrow a few to play with.

I don't know if I have ever heard of Fallout3, I'll look into it. We have a PS3 on a 42" 1080 LCD however my personal opinion, the graphics on the console games have just never been good enough, my computer has twice the graphics of our PS3. I do love how the PS3 handles media streaming though. I'll see if the wife wants to go out for a drive and rent Fallout3 and I'll try it on the PS3. Who knows maybe I am missing something.

Capt.
We probably didn't have the same knee surgery so, I won't suggest anything but, I can relate to the drug's effects on your body. I couldn't handle the pain pills, they made me goofier than I already am, so after three, I quit taking them. Yeah, it hurt like hell but, at least I cold focus on what I needed to do. Rehab really sucks but, you gotta do it. Rehab is going to help strengthen the muscles that the surgeon so playfully moved around. It will also help reduce the swelling. Got an ice wrap? Such a wonderful invention.

Good luck in your recovery. I'm walking fairly even now but, it doesn't take much to make me winch in pain if I happen to catch my foot on something, twisting the knee. Thankfully, it was my right knee, wouldn't know what to do if it was my left, shifting requires the use of the left knee when depressing that clutch pedal. Take care and keep us posted.

That was something we already knew Ron.

On a side note for you Capt., Percocet is the nanny form of percodan and is made so that if you take to many you get sick before you OD.

I know way to much about drugs.

So I just got home from another doctors appointment. Everything is going as it should. I am on one hell of a cocktail, Percocet, Tramecet, Zoplicon, Lyrca, Tylenol 3, Naproxin, Flexerol, and something else that I can't remember. I actually have 2 doctors, one for general care and the 2nd which is the Ortho surgeon that actually did the work. I have a 2nd appointment on Wednesday to meet with the surgeon about getting the staples removed and changing the type of leg brace I am in.

As for exactly what was done, honestly I can't even answer that, as the surgeon never did explain it in lamens terms that I could understand. However here is what I do know, they were going to go in, and take up the slack in the MCL and the ACL, both had been damaged from repeated dislocation's of my knee. I had excess swelling in my knee and the knee cap would slip over due to the slack in the tendons and pinch a nerve, when that happened, it felt like I had been shot in my knee. Pain so severe that I would damn near collapse, the kind of pain that makes you want to instantly vomit. He said that he found several jagged edges that he had to clean up while he was in there as well. My knee had gotten so bad that I could be walking along thinking everything was fine and all of a sudden WHAM, SNAP, OOOOOUUUUUUWWWWW. Wouldn't have to twist or catch it, it would just all of a sudden snap out.

There was a 3rd part inside the knee that they said they worked on, however in my current state I can't remember what they said it was. Just in short, it was bad, and they went in and did some renovation and remodeling.

Yep it is my right knee as well. Thankfully the same reason as you say, I will still be able to quick shift with my left clutch foot fine.

I am trying to cut back on the Percocet, and move to a more normal pain killers that I listed above. Frankly the percocet just makes me feel ill, and does not seem to work that well to begin with. I am taking 1-2 every 4hrs or so. I'll have to look at the bottle to find out how strong they are in dosage. I should take a picture of my drug table and post it, I am sure it would make a few of laugh.

Beware close your eyes now if you can't handle graphic pics.

Went to my Ortho Surgeon today and they removed the staples. I was expecting a ton of pain, but it was well, painless. Well OK not pain free, but it sure didn't hurt as much as I was expecting. Just a little tug and each one came out.

Got a really cool leg brace, has adjustments on either side for range of motion, really comfortable compared to all the others I have.

Well so today was eventful.

Then got this put on. I feel like going and digging up the old Styx album and playing Mr. Roboto.

Lisa decided she wanted to make a few stops after the doctors, and when we got to Waldo Mart, I decided to get out of the truck and go inside to to use the washroom, just as I was about to leave, there greeter saw me in the leg brace and crutches and immediately asked if I wanted an electric scooter. I was like Uh YA sign me up. They gave me a brief run down on how it worked and away I went. Really fun zipping around the store. This is defiantly the way to shop. I found Lisa and for the first time in a long time I did not mind waiting around for her as she checked every label to see which baby formula was the best.

Glad to see your making progress. I know those buggies are fun but, you won't get any better riding around on that thing. Exercise that leg.

On a side note, can those buggies be hopped up?

Just an update, I am up walking around a bit now. The new brace has been a life saver. I am able to go to the store and shop. I almost thought it was funny but at the doctors today Lisa (FieroChick) asked the doc about a handicap tag for the car, and he said sure, and was kinda shocked we did not already have one. So WooHoo, we always get close parking now.

I am off of the Percocet now, and just taking Tramecet (alternative to T3"s) I am have 90 degree movement in my leg. which is exactly where I am suppose to be. Doc says I should be out of the brace mid March and should be back to 100% well actually better than 100% probably 120% of what I was before the surgery. So that will be in the beginning of April.

So thanks for all Well Wishing, its really nice having a PFF family to come and talk to.

Excellent

Have you inadvertently stubbed your toe yet? You know, miscalculated and accidently caught your right foot? Not enought to trip but just enough to stop that leg from moving forward quickly? Oh yeah, that'll get your attention!!! Take care, keep at the rehab and good luck.

Here is a suggestion...

Keep the leg brace to use for shopping at Wall-Mart, and get to ride on a scooter from here on out!

Sounds like you are well on your way to recovery. Enjoy your handicap parking permit as long as you can. I'm also glad to hear that you are being weaned off the pain medication, you definitely do not want to become addicted to these.
