Just so everyone knows, this was my result from speedtest.net:

This was my result from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

A few years ago when I was having speed problems with my wireless connection I was using both speedtest and speakeasy. Speakeasy had a lot less variability than speedtest at that time and was typically slower especially on the upload side.

My average:

It is a little slower than the normal, only because when the internet slows down, it crawls. I ain't complainin 'bout it none, it is free from Comcast Looooooong story.

The wires are very old from here to the DSLAM and they are not yet willing to replace them. I can't wait for them to bring in fiber optics.

Does the computer you're using effect the speed? My ISP advertises an 8mb download speed for my plan, but I'm usually right around 3mb, give or take a few tenths. I don't think I've ever seen it go up to 4. This is cable, by the way.

All you guys with your fancy smanschy high speed internetz... I was excited when Verizon DSL came to my neighborhood and my house almost six years ago. This was my speed a week ago:

I was paying for 1.5Mbs downloads <--- fixed because I held down the CAPS key while typing in mps and didn't pay it no mind (don't recall the upload speed)

And now, for $5 more than what I was paying for my phone and internet from Verizon, I got phone and FIOS:

I'm paying for 15 Down/5 Up

21 ms ping is good...
And these are sustained speeds, not 'speedboosted' for ten or twenty seconds like the cable companies.

I even got ten bucks off each month for six months... damn, I'm feeling smug

if you use the speedtest many cable companies list on their websites (charter does for sure) it will list the REAL speed, not including any bursts. had a GOOD cable guy here the other day and let me in on some few tips he learned over the years (like the obvious "tech support doesnt know sh*t"). and there are mobile speed test sites. AND, for reference if it hasnt been said yet, to know your REAL speeds (in megaBYTES, not useless megaBITS) devide the numbers that speedtest.net gives you by 8.

thats kilaBYTES, so to compare to everyone elses speedtest.net numbers, mine would be about 32kilabits. not to mention that was the average speed over the span of downloading over 7megabytes, so it wasnt a glitch. most likely burst speed, but i kept doing the test over and over again and it stayed pretty steady at around 4000kilabytes, sometimes going a bit over 4000. that was using my wifi thru my Droid
edit to show inaccuracy typical to speedtest.net and crappy routers

all while paying for 5megabits per second. REAL speeds never changed. NOW after getting a nice router and waiting a bit for speedtest.net to improve, my results are around 10megabits, as they should be (charter doubled our speed for free a few months ago)

I just download a manual for the Millermatic 35.
It was a 4.8MB pdf file.
During the download the speed varied between 2.4 and 3.2 KB/sec.
3.2 KB/sec
3200 B/sec
25,600 b/sec
.026 Mb/sec

0.03 Mb/sec is in the ball park.

The upload number? I do not know.

You got your terminology a bit mixed up.

First of all it's "Kilo" not "Kila". 3941 KiloBytes per second would be about 32 Megabits per second. If it was 32 Kilobits per second, that connection would be slower than through an old fashioned serial modem. But, mobilespeedtest.com measures speed in kbps (Kilobit per second, so the speed really is about 3.85 megabit per second, not 32 megabit per second. And 3.85 megabit per second is about maximum for a mobile device.

This one is mine from home.. Anything more than 25mbit/s and I had to build a PFsense box to handle it..

It's not always 100mbit, but the pings are AWESOME, which is why I love it so...

I don't care about "tests"...... Let me see actual real-life usage and I'll be impressed.

In reality, I have sustained 600k upload speeds for hours on end. Something like 2.5megabytes/s down sustained (with a good swarm).

A good way to check total speeds, download a linux distro from their server and a separate torrent at different times / it'll give you a pretty good indicator of your overall connection.
